Dear fellow collectors, this certain Ustf does wear a fake uniform (see the army eagle and the missing of the armeagle) but as the photograph is period he does not know it!!!
Big Grin
So if you find a proper elite uniform please avoid it when it shows stitches of a removed army breast eagle as it is a repro too.

This is a Deutschland officer as noted by the SS-1 collar tab (pre-May 1940). I would assume, as I've seen photos like this before, he was attending an Army school. THere are class pictures with SS men in the class wearing a breast eagle, and in some cases a breast AND a sleeve eagle. If this is an original wartime photo, then how can the tunic be fake?

Dear fellow collectors, thank you for looking and writing.
When I started this thread I did already know the fact that during army instruction courses the SSofficers wore the army breast eagle and (sometimes) the arm eagle too (I have such a pictire with both eagles too). So my thread really has been some kind of joke and also I think we never can be aware enough that nearly all is possible in our hobby.
BTW my photograph bears a dedication and is dated december 1938 (totally concorming to the time frame Quantico stated).
On the original photograph it is better to be seen, the collar tab bears "2" (not "1" for Deutschland).
Gaspare, I did not know this obviously interesting thread, sorry you could not find it any more.
Thank you for showing this additional photograph.
Regards,

Great images,,,,I have seen a few pics like these with the breast eagle before in wear,,,, Would the breast eagle be worn because the SS-officer was attending a Military Instruction course and not a Political one? Confused

These may even start off as Training Army issue jackets [ although both have the french type cuffs ] and maybe the collar tabs/cuff title were sewn on when issued ,,,,, Confused

It comforts me that uniforms at that time was mixed.

No wonder we collectors are confused some 60+ years after Roll Eyes

Not counting pictures of elite units being inspected by high ranking chair warmers, pictures of any armed forces usually show a variety of uniforms and accouterments
