I got this in an estate sale. It was definitely used alot as the worn parts match where my hands fit when I hold it. It looks like alot of hand painting, not just a decal.

I think it is original...where is the "deckel"...I need to see the handle and the lid...to see if everything matches...but the stein itself looks good...your SteinMeister...Roland.

No lid. What is interesting to me is it is worn right where my hand touches when placed through the handle. I know it isn't minty but interesting to me and the price was really right.

Certain parts of the decorates on these items are ‘transfers’ which is similar to a decal but far more durable than the little insignias that we put on plastic model airplanes when kids after dipping in warm water.

These decorations were then later ‘touched up’ by adding hand applied enamel to highlight buttons, helmet plates and similar items.

Much of the wording that goes around the bands were transfers that had additional identifying information added by hand in enamel like the soldier’s name dates of service etc.

It is not unusual for the decorations to wear at different rate and to be substantially worn and faded if used by the original or subsequent owners.
