Hello All, I was wondering if anybody could give me some input as to wheather this stein is original or a fake. Its supposed to be from 1898 Darmstadt Reg 115. I'm new to the steins so any help would be great. I dont have the stein so these are the only pics I can post. thanks in advance

I believe this stein to be an original...but without a pewter lid...as long as it isnt to expensive...looks good to me...Roland.

I agree with the moderator’s comments regarding originality.
Service dates from just before the turn of the century dovetails with this ‘footed’ style of stein and lack of typical military transfers of training and service in the field usually seen on later dated regimentals.
These earlier steins usually are largely (and sometimes exclusively) hand decorated. The lids often did not appear military and often have ‘civilian’ lids that are bell shaped without the usual soldier, cannon or such decoration. Similarly, the thumblift will not be in a military format. The Lithopane will also not be military.
Attached is a PIC of two steins from these approximate service dates that display the same general characteristics.
