Chief, You should reread my posts: I am not stating this theory, because Eickhorn just used 5 different makersmarks, THEY MADE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SA DAGGERS WITH THE ROHM DEDICATION! Just look at the pictures! Have you seen in our times any pictures of politicians wearing illegal weapons? Take into account that in the 1920-30ties picture taking was not a consumption/mass product yet... Best greetings, Herman

I took a few pictures of the Eickhorn makers marks on my name only ground Rohm, and my Full Rohm. First, the large oval;

The theory behind this mark is that they used existing SA daggers that were in stock to engrave with the Rohm dedication, but then saw that the mark was too large, and too far from the crossguard. Then they used a smaller mark closer to the crossguard;

They also used a small oval mark on the later produced Himmler's;

Another interesting thing to note is that all three of these early Eickhorn marks are correct, but different.

I just re-read Herr Mann's posting, and my own about taking daggers from the stock shelf for the Rohm dedication daggers. Since Eickhorn got a large order (a VERY large order considering millions of SA Members!) they were very busy trying to fill these orders. I wonder if, in a large company like that, were all of the daggers that were in production at the same time made exactly the same? A lot of the work was done by hand, could different maker marks and different blade etching templates have been used at the same time in different parts of the factory? Could they have used different eagles on the grips, depending on which style was in each seperate parts bin? Chief

Here is one original Ehrendolch (Röhmdolch) confirmation with it's date as we know it and it's Verfügungs number. I doubt it very very much prior this date any Röhm daggers where given out. I know about one first style letter "A" SA dagger (I hate this Christmas word) where I try to get since some years already, on this one is no removed or existing Röhm etching on the blade.

Thank you for that clear, well taken photo of the large oval Eickhorn SA with removed inscription. Neat piece and very scarce.
I would like to add that the small logo Eickhorn SA you show has a "serrated tail" squirrel. There are some (I have one) with a "smooth tail" logo and inscription. So the variations keep coming.

Small logo examples with "smooth tail", "serrated tail" and "C.E." squirrel are shown at the beginning of this topic.
Best greetings,

As I have state on this topic before, Dr. Milestone had in his collection a variant motto A (Christmas Dagger) by Pack with a Rohm dedication on the reverse. Unfortunately, the very tip of the blade was missing or I would have owned it. I still think I made a mistake letting it go bye even with this tip problem. Ron Weinand Weinand Militaria PS: I truly believe that Rohm had some of these made up special prior to the idea that SA members with the proper enlistment date were to receive a Rohm dedicated dagger. This was where the idea originated from to give the dagger to the multitude of SA members, not just Rohm's staff.

This is a VERY Informative discussion of the 'date of' the 1st Rohm's. A magical Dated photo from Robert Noss could go a Long way in helping to move the discussion (& intellectual investigation) in either direction. One problem is that there are virtually NO period photos of the daggers - being viewed outside of their scabbards! (With the exception of Maker's catalogs - and I'm not aware of one, which lists the Rohm model per se.)
Ron, any idea where the Milestone 'A' type Rohm Engraved Model ended up in a collection? That Rohm dagger would be Spectacular, and an 'eye opener' to see, for sure.

The dagger was an eye opener for me. I had the luck of being at an OVMS Show in the late 1960s or early 1970s when the dagger was there and had the chance to examine it for quite a while along with several others. It left an impression on me and it is the only one I have seen in person with the variation motto and an INTACT Rohm inscription. Where it went I do not know. AT THAT TIME, as I remember, the price was $2500.00 and I thought: I will find one without the damaged tip (what an error). Ron Weinand Weinand militaria

Hello all, I am really interested in the main question originally brought up by Herr Mann. How many original Eickhorn marked Röhm SA daggers are there? Who has made the statement that there are only 2 markers? Was this person wrong? How many could there be? Thanks!
