I stumbled across a Third Reich fare gun with a proof I don't recognize.
As you hold the gun in your right hand pointing left it's marked ac and 1940. Has a 4 digit serial number and, as I recall, a small letter 'g' right after the serial nr.
The reverse of the pistol has several WA 359 proofs (for Walther). My question is about two proofs on this same side that look like the 'stick eagle' but where the swastika would ordinarily be there appears to be a small triangle with a letter 'L' inside. The eagles' wings are not parallel to the top of the weapon but are turned 90 degrees (the eagles' wings are NOT parallel to the bore - the eagle’s wings are perpendicular to the bore.) What is this proof? I DON'T think it's Police as I had one of these flare guns that was Police proofed and it did not resemble this proof and was on a different place on the gun.
Sorry, no pictures are available.

Ryan, hi got your message but just been damn busy(i hate that!!)
To my knowledge its not for a branch of service just another mark for one of walthers many factories.I dont have the reference book on flare pistols but I'm sure it would be referenced in it. Price seems all over the place on flare pistols. I purchased 2 for 200 bucks. i purchased 1 for 275 bucks. The one like your was in a swap deal so really I paid nothing for it. If I seen one at a show I wanted or didnt have and it was in the 200-350 range I'd buy it. I see early walthers about all but gone( with the nice finish, pre war type) these war time ones like all this stuff is eaten up quickly. I had a chance to buy a luft double barrel for 400$ about 5 years ago. I passed but have a big regret about it.
Hope you a doin' ok?

Ryan, I had thought the way the other member here spoke of his mark it may be a luft mark. Since its not posted i dont know. However the mark you speak of and the one I have shown is not a luft mark. After re-reading this again I worded the whole thing a but goofy(thats me sorry!)but not a luft mark. just a diffrent zella factory mark, as far as I know.

Ryan, I think thats a good price if the condition is there. Flare pistols will only increase in value. take it easy!
