Looking closer at the motto it occurs to me that it differs from other Eickhorns I have seen. However, Eickhorn may have used multiple templates. If anyone else has an Eickhorn transitional please post a pic of the motto.

There are two Eickhorn templates. The difference is in the letters "H" and"T" if I remember right. I can post pics later when I get home but if you look in Whittmans book he goes into it towards the back of the book.

Thanks guys, tried to take some pics of the crossgraining,it is prominent to look at but I cant get it on a photo like it is in the hand. Why would different templates be used, did firms have their own that differed firm to firm.Grip.

"Van Nuys" = "Very nice." From an old joke. Van Nuys is a city in California. The joke goes: How did Van Nuys get its name? In the 19th century a wagon train headed west to California. Upon arriving there, the view was so gorgeous as to be unbelievable. The wagon master asked a rabbi, one of the members of the train, what he thought. The rabbi replied: "Van Nuys, Van Nuys." Thus, it was named. A "groaner," no doubt, told by Merv G. years ago when he had a daily tv show.

Grip,
A very nice SS RZM Transitional Double Marked Eickhorn Dagger, for the year 1938. You did very well for a 1st acquisition.
Whittmann references a 'relative' rarity scale for the SS EM 33's, but there is not RZM Rarity Scale ... yet (of which I am aware).
Transitionals which are 'double marked' hold more interest for many SS collectors, since the Maker is readily evident. (There are certainly exceptions, such as M/29, with "!" point in the motto - and others.) It's a personal preference.
Look for a Maker Marked 33 EM, for your next big step into SS Dagger collecting.

Dave, how do I readily spot an EM33,once again sorry for the novice question. 'THE QUESTIONS ARE ONLY HARD IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE ANSWERS'

Nickn, I am very suspicious of the blade/etching on your transitional 37 dated. Looks too clean and laser-etched this logo to me. Letters and numbers are of a different kind than what I'm used to seeing..
Cheers,

I would have to agree that the maker's mark looks different that I would expect. The RZM circle and the letters and numbers are thicker than I have seen before. Since the blade appears in great shape, this is not the result of wear or cleaning.

Well, Grip, it is a squirrel nickn2, the more I look at that trademark, the more I am convinced it is a reproduction blade fitted to a well worn dagger. It is the font of the letters plus the thick circle of the RZM that I doubt. Sorry to give you an adverse opinion. Dave

my logo looks the same as the other 37 dated example i have taken a glass to the motto and logo and you can see pimpling associated if acid etching but not with lazer etching i believe my dagger to be genuine just like my m7/29 brought from a vet but questioned when i posted photos!

nickn2: IMO: Your best bet is to bring your dagger to one of the major shows and let multiple people do a hands on inspection. Frankly I'd hate to try calling yours just based on the posted pictures. Jim

Look at Ulrics website. 3500 for an RZM Eick.... The cheapest on your Dealers tables Sunday in SS were about 1800....and kind of "beaters" Seiler (Yank in UK)
