Hi guys I am presently the owner of a heavily worn 1934 Night of the Long Knives honour ring...the inscription is visible and it has a nice seam...the skull is okay with some definition left mostly to the eyes and teeth...but the majority of the exterior has been worn smooth....it is accompanied by 30 pages of research..chap served in SS Polizei Division and Das Reich......also comes with Don Boyle COA obtained by me...I am upgrading and wish to either sell or trade for $3000.I paid more for the ring from a dealer but want to know if this is a fair price for someone wanting an entry level into HK rings...Don said that in his opinion I didn't overpay because it is authentic and researched and June 1934 dated...Opinions are welcome...cheers, Ryan

From the prices that I have seen as of late on HR's, your price seems more than fair IMO.

Was he a paper pusher in SS Polizei Division and Das Reich or a combat man? If combat make sure you list his awards if any...

Who was the recipient? I ask because I have a numbered and researched Rohm dagger from a man who served in Das Reich and ended his career and life in the 4th SS Polizei Division. Wouldn't it be a great coincidnce if....?

Sorry guys I stand corrected once more....45 pages of documentation...all translated and performed by Robert McDivitt back in 1989...it would appear that the original recipient died in 1980.so he survived the war....if there is someone willing to post pics I will try to get some off tonight or tomorrow...although I have a really good digital I am not certain of my ability to take really good close-ups of the type need to show detail to this ring. thanks and cheers, Ryan email at [email protected]

Ryan, don't worry about the little details etc. You have Dons paper, everyone knows its real! Collectors usually like to see the skull, a rune or 2 a sample of the engraving whether it be the mans name, date, Himmler etc. Yeah, I'd say not a paper pusher Good luck with it...

Wow, that ring is really worn down but it's still real and worth 3K IMO. When you look at rings on the dealer sites, prices are 8K and up for an average condition ring and some of them seem to be selling!

Thanks for posting Paul...the chap received it in mid 1934 and obviously wore it at least until 1945 so that much wear on an original 34 ring would be expected...He survived the war so who knows how much longer he wore it, if retained....Nice combat history ring...I will be offerring in Classifieds in next week or so..thanks to all, cheers, Ryan

I for one am still at a loss for a satisfactory explanation as to the cause of this type of excessive wear in Honor rings. According to the published analysis information the alloy was 90% silver,9% copper and 1% trace elements. I got one of the first rings made by Hapur over a year ago and have worn it constantely since then. According to him the rings are roughly 9.25 silver(Sterling). My ring exhibits essentially zero wear in this period. Anyone have an explanation? Jim

A really worn ring that one but it's got some real combat history attatched and also Don's COA, would be a nice pickup for someone after an early honest example.

Hi Jim I suppose the most plausible explanation is that they might have been continually polished to enhance their sheen over a decade...that together with combat wear...of course there is always the possibility that they were worn post war for the next 60 years..that certainly would do it I should think...I guess that we will never know conclusively...It is a fact however that numerous early cast rings were returned to Gahr due to their excessive wear and thus were replaced...cheers, Ryan

If polishing would do it my copy would show wear as well. I have a theory which deals with how the rings were actually made by the Gahrs that may account for the wear but since it's just a theory I'll withhold it for now. Jim

Ryan. I see they removed your ring from the for sale section! Why don't you have Paul Lakeside Trader transfer them from this post to the for sale section and that should satisfy Dave? SSman

I bought a great Russian copy in 97. Wore it for 7 or 8 years almost around the clock,,,its in pretty worn shape.. Not like Ryans, but that could have 20, 30 ,even 40 years of wear on and off on it.. And,,the early patterns definitely wear out faster than the latter.......

The one thing that comes to mind...is the original owner might have wanted to wear this ring after the war, and he could have filed/sanded the symbols off. I for one doubt they wore off just by wearing it.

hi Sepp interesting theory but these rings are quite thin and soft when compared even to later made rings...remember...this was a design flaw peculiar to these early rings that was rectified in subsequent production and they wore out enough during the period that many had to be sent back to Gahr for replacement...for that to have been necessary the wear must have been substantial...so in my opinion and others we have a worn ring that was quite simply not returned for replacement...to file a ring would leave tell tale signs and would be very difficult to obtain uniform wear...and then a person would have to polish out the ring...those that have seen the ring in hand all have said wear due to "wearing" even if he wore it post war or if someone else did.thanks and cheers, Ryan

Ryan, does the man's file give any indication how he was associated with activities of the Night of the Long Knives? What and where were his original Alleg. SS assignments?

Did he receive it as an NCO and thus is not shown in the 1934 DAL? What about the 1935. Does it show his unit? I have a similar problem with a Night of the Long Knives dated ring. The owner was apparently an NCO but in the Secret Police and didn't show in the DALs until 1936 or 1937.

No rings or awards are shown in the 1934 officer list for any officer.

Hi I believe that the research performed by Mr.McDivitt does indicate award of the TK ring along with the Jule candle and the other awards.. as soon as I take some more pics I will be attempting to list this ring once more in the For Sale section for $3250.....cheers, Ryan
