First of all I would like to than Mr. Andy (Militarynut)for answering my request in the "wanted" forum and offering this wonderful and from what I understand RARE grouping from his own long-time personal collection.
It should arrive in a few weeks and when it does I will post more pics.
Let me know what you think, I have never seen one of these knives before...

I'm not sure about this item.
It could be right , but it's not my area of collecting.

So i hope others will post on it.

I'm with Bob, I'm not sure although it appears to look correct. The Puma maker mark is correct for pre 1938 and the piece looks to have nice pre war quality. I've seen similar pieces but with a different hilt and blade.

Thanks for the input so far.
I have been told that this knife has been pictured in one of Johnson's references as well as in Angolia's dagger book. I however do not own either of these references. Can anyone do me a favor and look it up?
Someone else here MUST have one of these...
Anyone???

This knife is 100% right in my opinion. I would have no problem buying it. The ones you watch out for have the metal scabbards and the Puma trademark like on an early HJ. I think I have told yall before but I got my example directly from a guy who was there at the rally. He told me these were momentos. I have a 34, 35 and a 37 I think are the dates. Russ

Thanks Russ!
You actually answered another one of my questions which was; were these issued for more than one year?
Any chance we could see a pic. of your pieces???
Thanks in advance!

Johnny,

I think you should feel a lot better that uss has chimed in about seeing identical pieces. I took the liberty of checking Angolia's "Edged Weaponry of the 3R" and your knife does not appear in it. Quite likely to be in one of Johnson's 8 volumes, I just don't remember which volume it's in but I'm fairly certain it's in there. Nice grouping.

Hello John,I looked up the knife in my copy of Jack's book(Daggers,Bayonets, etc.) and it's right there on Page 276,dated 1935 and No. 6311 on the ricasso--I think you can relax a bit more.Good luck with it!Hugh.

John, As noted above, the correct title of the book is --"Daggers,Bayonets and Fighting Knives of Hitler's Germany" and I seem to recall on of these knives on Tom Whittmann's site about 6 or 8 months ago.Again--a fine item with a cool History factor.Hugh.

I lived 30 years close to the city Nurnberg, but I never found anywhere any Parteitag HJ knife. Not at one of all the fleamarkets I went or from any of my many Franconian hunting tours. Also no collector friend over there ever got or found one. I don't want to say they are faked, I just don't trust them much.

Hmmm.
It is interesting how many different opinions there are on this piece. I e-mailed the same pics. to Whittmann and he said it's 100% good...
Thank you Mr. Hassler for your input. It is interesting that in all those years you never saw one. Did you encounter the more common DJ version?
Russ- are your other Puma partei day dated knives the same early puma logo as mine or are they different? Congrats on having 3!!!
Thanks,
Johnny

The 35 is identical. I haven't had it out in years. It came direcety from the original owner. The others I picked up over the years. All say Puma but do not have the cat. I don't have a problem with this style. Russ

Johnny,

Sorry, I had a different Jack angolia book. Mine is titled "Edged Weaponry of the Third Reich". I probably should pick up the other one Smile

Is there any provinence from the Puma side out who could proof this knife is legit? Don't take me wrong I don't want to say anything bad about this knife, but books are not always the golden key that something is original.

Mr. Hassler,
I appreciate your sober and critical opinion of this piece. If nothing else it makes me feel better about the flask that I bought at the last SOS that you liked: http://daggers.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/473097...740053904#7740053904

Ramamber?
Das war schon Sie kenned zu learnen.
Thanks again,
Johnny V.

I was supriswed that the design is different. The Puma blade design is about 50%larger and MUCH more detailed, feathers are on the eagles chest, you can even see its eye and mouth.

The depth of the etch (or stamp?) on the puma is also MUCH deeper than that of the DJ.
This is the puma (below)

It does not appear to be the same knife as in the book. The stag pattern appears to be different-and I see what may also be other differences.
