I want to share with you this nice imperial wall-carpet. It measures 6,6 x 2,5 feet and shows the re-conquest of the fortress of Przemysl at the eastern front in June 1915. You can see german and austrian soldiers in the left, and the austrian emperor Franz-Josef together with the german emperor Wilhelm in the middle, in the background a zeppelin in the air and a view over the burning Przemysl with captured russian soldiers. At the right side german and austrian generals, you can see the german Kronzprinz with his hussars-cap.

The piece came from Dresden, and was, I presume, a present of the the emperor to a saxonian regiment or to a highranking, in Dresden living officer.

What a unique historical item with great content. Thanks for posting it.
Can you describe its constuction and maybe give an estimate on how much it weighs?
Also,do you have any clues on where it was hung after presentation?
Thanks

dean,

thanks for your friendly comment. I will try to give some anwers with my bad english: The carpet weights around 3,3 pound (lb), I got it from Dresden after the german reunion in 1990 and it comes out of a casern. It was always in my mind to show it in my home. Unfortunally, there are two problems: the first is my wife and the second, that the carpet is a little bit to large.

I presume, that pieces like these were special made in only small numbers, may be this is the onliest wich had survived. It has a signature, wich I cannot read. It is made by fine wool and had a frame in former times, wich is missing now. For my opinion that must be a present to a high ranking officer or a Regiment wich has part on the re-conquest of Przemysl in 1915.

Kolibri,

Now that's something one doesn't see too often,
textile work of this caliber. Franz Josef and Willi reviewing the Austrian troops.

Very, very nice. Thanks for letting us take a look.

Best!
