Thought I would show a plate commemorating the Saar election and return to Germany. "The Saar comes home". Although the maker mark can't be seen,this plate/fruit bowl was made by Villeroy & Boch. To this day a very well known and popular manufacturer. Thanks for looking.

Ps for those who may not be aware, Villeroy & Boch is better known simply as Mettlach, the producer of the "Cadillacs of beersteins," and other high-end quality German stoneware.

benten, Thanks for the reminder and thank you all for your interest, glade you all like the Saar plate. Also, really neat to see the two winged dragons above the knight in the first picture.
Since their was an interest in my(K)night stand..lol.. I'm glad to show another historical plate, this time from WWI which nicely depicts an encounter at the Battle of Mons. Articulated by the artist from accumulated stories told to him by his brother and others who died later in the war. The artist made this plate as a lasting memory and dedication to his brother and of course for those that fought and died in this engagement. Lastly, the artist presented this plate to the mayor of Nimy. And understandably so.
King Albert I and his Bavarian princess Queen Elisabeth are shown at the top of the plate. A very interesting royal couple to read about. Both were well liked and admired by many for many reasons.
Not often seen and which is very exciting to see on this plate at bottom is the "Angel of Mons". Also a very interesting subject to read about. For me the battle is the best read of all. I've added some additional pictures from places of interest as well. Thanks for looking!

Bill, Thanks for mentioning the VB connection with Mettlach. The only old Mettlach I have is this piece I believe. Well I was told it was old Mettlach I just haven't got around to researching it yet. But I don't care really I just like it.
I like the old German language, but more than that I like the "Knight's War Prayer".

God father on the highest throne, I bid you to standby me today that I with this sword kill the enemy in great numbers.

I don't often come down this far on the forum but I'm so glad I did today, some beautiful artifacts posted here by Mikee, I think I may well be spending more time looking through everything I have missed.

This next historical plate is an extremely rare one and shows Rheinstein Castle over looking the Rhein River. The caption reads; "Rheinland Wieder Frei, 1930". Which means; "Rheinland again free, 1930". It's interesting reading about the history and occuption of this area and I highly recommend a visit if you ever get the chance! Here's hoping you like it and thanks for looking!

Mikee, the plates are rare, interesting and beautifull; all in one. I'm a lover of the combination "Volkstümlich" (people/paesants tradition) and Thirdreich politics.

I see you moved the plates a bit so one can see the nice woodwork in the background.

Mikee, You have been "holding out" on us collectors. What a treat to see these wonderful items you are showing. Like Gary, I too will now have to expand my searches. How about showing some more Mikee for you must have some more hidden away. Great viewing and thanks a lot. James

Benten, Thanks and glad you like them. That sounds like an interesting study. I enjoy that combination in art, as well as a good interpretation of most objects whether wood, oil, bronze, porcellain and everthing in between. I guess I like art for art's sake and the art just so happens to be made out of what it's made out of when I find it.
