Hi, Ive had this a long time, but its one of only two police items I own. I've wondered why theres no piping on it.
Any opinions would be appreciated. Cheers, Ryan Ehrenring

This would be a nice regulation sidecap, they did not all come with piping, the only thing that concerns me is the double row of stitching on the bottom of the cap, seems strange that it actually goes over the top of the insignia. Apart from this anomaly I would say that it looks pretty good. The stitching around the turn up is very good as is the makers mark and the stitching on the inside, but i just cannot get over the very bad stitching on the bottom. I am just not 100% on this one, however I am 80% everything else look pretty dam good, but we would like a close up of the air vent on the inside. Is there any moth tracking or wear? Can we see the other one

Hey Gary, Thanks for the info. Well, I dont know about the stitching at all, so not sure what to say. Maybe someone else can help?
Heres a pic of the air vent holes, inside and out and the reverse of the eagle inside.
Thanks again for looking, much appreciated. Ryan Ehrenring

WOW!! Nice collection.
I notice that the 5th one in from the left appears to have the stitching also over the eagle bottom?
Heres the outside of the same vent.

Also, forgot to answer your question: Yes, its in good shape, but has some slight moth tracking. You can see it next to the outer vent in one of the pictures above.

Along with the discussion about un-piped overseas caps, two have appeared here. Both are odd in that the white eagle in on a green background. Gary, you said you like the un-piped versions. I don't understand why they would have produced them. And I don't understand the white eagles on dark green background. One of the hats is made of a bluish police green wool with a grey cotton liner marked Pol 1941 and (58). The other cap is a greener police green with an unmarked greenish rayon lining.Stitching is identical for both caps, and the eagles were stitched on with same machine as stitched the caps.

Joe,
I have not seen the white eagles on dark green background on these caps or loose for that matter. I do recall seeing the white bevo style eagles on brown that were reproduced in Germany some ten years ago. I first saw those at a flea market in Germany on uncut bolts. They were pretty convincing at first. I wonder if the ones you mention are a new batch of fakes?

Sorry, lost some of the chest detail in the reduction in size. The stitching of the eagle and the cap was the same machine.

Thanks for the pix Joe. I have not seen this eagle before. This guy is rather distinctive with his huge nose/beak and dis-articulated wings. It is a new one on me and I don't much like it.

Dear Joe,
I have never seen an eagle like that loose before. The construction and pattern look OK but as you all have pointed out, I have never seen one on green background.
I got burned with one of those brown repros from the 70's back when, but I haven't been offered a green one. The eagle embroidery pattern was different as shown here.
Regards, Bill Unland

Hello Joe
I must say that I have not seen the green one before, but it looks exceptionally good, and the green on the first picture dont look too far off the police green. Here is a blue one I have and it isnt that far off yours, the only difference I can see is in the beak design

I forgot one key. The whiter eagle threw a glow back to me under blacklight, while the other didn't because of the discoloration. Now the glow might have been from washing as it came in with a grouping of clothing that had a bug problem and the dealer did it. The other cap with the discoloration had a relatively nice condition rayon liner, but the cap displayed small mothing nicks on the sides and lower edges going around to the inside. The disquieting thing besides the white on green insignia was that the insignia was sewn on with the same machine as made the cap.

Gary,
Your eagle looks like the smaller eagle sometimes seen on the side of the blue FW side caps. It looks very close to the green backed eagle but is slightly different. I wonder if your style eagle might have been used as a template for the one Joe shows? Perhaps someone is trying to reproduce this FW eagle for a green Schupo cap?

George you are absolutely correct, it is the smaller eagle but I think that the ones joe shows is also the smaller eagle. Now here is a definate repro cap I had the pleaseure of examining this one and as soon as I got it out of the packet you could smell the NEW chemical smell, but it does have a good eagle, and the stitching is very well done

Well, I went looking through pictures and I found a loose example of the "big nose eagle" that Joe saw on the caps. This one has black backing it appears.
