Hi guys, I saw an interesting photo album over the weekend. It was brought to me by the son of a recently deceased vet.It had the encircled SS runes on the cover and under them was the legend "Zur Erinnerung an Meine Dienstzeit Standarte Deutschland". It was completely full of photos showing SS men on parade,in their barracks, home on leave, on maneuvers, target practice etc. Some of the last pics show them parading past the Munich mausoleum of the Nazi putschists and the final ones show the men and their vehicles being loaded on transport ships. I've bought a few items from this fellow in the past few months but he's reluctant to part with this album.I'd like to make him an offer but I haven't a clue what something like this is worth. Can anyone enlighten me? Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks & best regards, Len

Len, That sounds like a terrific album! Did you count the pictures? To me, that would be a first step in determining value - simple arithmetic. # of pictures x price I would pay for each picture = sub total + price I would pay for the album itself = purchase price. If the album has 200 pictures and you feel they are worth an average of $5 each - you're looking at a value of approx. $1,000.

Hello Len,
I have a similar album from the Standarte Deutschland. Like Denny said, the number of photos is the first step to fix a price. Then of course quality of the photos - sharp, blurred, too dark, what is on them ? Are the uniforms good to see. Are there any high ranking personalities on them. And so on.
My album has 400 photos, many portraits of SS-men and leaders. Early stuff from the pre-1933 SS also. 15 years ago I paid a good price for it and could sell it today for 4-5 x the price I paid then. 1000 $ would be a good thing to start with, if it is a nice album, 1000 $ could be a bargain.
Kind regards Robert
