Ok, Yes I am one of thoughs Dagger & Helmet collectors, and I don't know alot on the subject of badges. So I got all these from I don't really know over time. And I never had good feelings about them. None are maker marked and all are solid, not releaived like many badges I have own that I knew were real, so I pose the question are any of these real?

Untill we get back to you with some conclusive answers here is a site that compares many war badges.
Not all badges were marked and many badges are found solid back.

Edit allows me to replace the image. I can not delete it but can replace it. Wink

Questions, does the obverse of the tank badge have zinc pest? Are any of the pins magnetic?

Adam, 'zinc pest',,its a corrosion of the metal [zinc]. At first when it just starts it gets cloudy, whitish and eventually when it gets worse over the years bits might actually crumble off..

Is the tank badge flat backed?
Is it my eyes but do all 3 badges have the same pin/catch assemblies?

Simliar style, and the tank badge and GAB does have zinc pest I guess, but the other dosen't really have any. But the catches, hinges and pins are very close in design but a little defferent on each I will try and get better pictures of them. Oh and on my badges I know are real should I clean this zinc pest off?

Thanks I tryed that but could not confirm anything from that site I've spent hours on it. I guess none of these stands right out as a reproduction, is that right? Confused Now I know why I don't collect badges full time. Mad Very confusing..#$@@%^$

That will be wonderful I guess if they end up being real, I'll wish I had treated them a little better like they were real Red Face (they been in a can all together for 3 or more years). I guess some badges just look cheap like GAB not very stylish design, IMO. If this is confirmed by a few more I'll feel a fool. I guess some of us should stick with daggers and helmets Big Grin

Adam, If the panzer badge is perfectly flat on the reverse check that tank badge link from derjager.. Look under 'Variants' and compare yours with the flat backed badge shown, there is even a weight. I personally don't like flat backs but more and more collectors are accepting them as original, so check carefully, you might have a rare one there.. ,G.

My tank badge looks like the last variant on the variant page and the weight of mine is right there.Variants Page

I am pretty sure that one is real now.

Thanks guys now we need to bust the other two for sure. Wink

Adam, you definitely have some tough badges to pin down.
The first red flag as already mentioned was the fact that all three badges were flat back with the same style hinge and the same catch base shape. Coincidences do happen. So leaving that aside the second pattern E-boat badge resembles an L/18 badge. The scratch marks on the reverse raise some concerns.
I am not of much help here. These badges are in a grey area. Will continue to research.

There are a number of badges that fall under the unknown maker category. There is a book covering General Assault badges. I believe the title to be, A Difinitive Guide to the German Awards of WWII, volume 1, The General Assault Badge by: Frank Heukemes. Perhaps someone with the book will reply with a search through the content.

Put some vasoline on those badges for 24 hours and then wipe it off. That will take care of the zink pest.

I sold most of my badges I purchased in favor of daggers and helmet which I find easier to know you got a TR period item. The only Badges I have left are my Vet buy stuff and The ones I've gotten that I don't know are real, I have one other I don't know is real, I will post the rest regardless.

This is one I believe to be a fake as I picked this up with a grouping that had many fakes along with the real things, but this one too I am unsure so it remains boxed up and put away.

Adam, thanks for posting the Ground assault badge. I have one laying around somewhere also.
In my case I traded many of my earlier collected daggers for badges. Roll Eyes Turned out to be a good move value wise.
As to the RS&S High Seas Fleet Badge I can only offer the following link.
http://lbmilitaria.homestead.com/files/hsfrss.jpg
I have not noted a varient set up like on yours.

Adam,
I like the pAB and GAB, not the E-boat. I am collecting PAB and would like to buy it, if you want to sell it.
Best Wishes,
Bob
