Can anyone help me with SS Feldpostnummer 35360?
I have an important document with this number and signed by Hauptsturmfuhrer und Adjutant Gerhard Borchmann.

Thank you so much Prorege. The letter is written in April 1945 and is a letter thanking a SS soldier for what he had done by taking out 3 Russian Tanks. It could very well be from Reichsfuhrer SS, as this soldier (who happens to be my neighbor...see thread under Helmet Forum) was called in to Reichsfuhrer SS in Berlin. It would be excellent if someone could confirm this and if anyone has any record of Borchmann.

You can try via John P. Moore - but if he did not advance above NCO rank perhaps a direct approach to Bundesarchiv would do the trick.

46 253 was Mess-Batterie for the Artillery Rgt. "Das Reich" in January 1942 up to 1.12.1944 when the number changed to Schwere Beobachtungs Batterie 502 with the battery going to the II.SS-Panzer Korps troops.

Thanks for the info! I have a dirty and field worn map belonging to this small group covering an area of Mius river. So it all makes sence. On the road through Charkov to Kursk in 1943. /Felix

I am still looking for a confirmation that 35360 was with Reichsfuhrer SS in March/April 1945. Anyone can give me that?

I can find no record of a Hstuf. Gerhard Borchmann serving in any branch of the SS. Possibly he was a late war transfer from the Luftwaffe or Army to the SS. The only Borchert that I find listed in the NARA microfilm is a Stubaf. Emil B. who was released from the SS in the mid-1930s to return to the SA.
Have you considered the possibility that the document may be a forgery?

Should a tell my neighbor and friend, an 87 year old holder of the ritterkreutz and with his chest full of German and Romanian medals, member of the LAH that the letter he received from Reichsfuhrer SS is a forgery? I don't think that is even an option in this case.....
But I do appreciate the effort. There has to be a logical explanation of Borchmann. But afterall he is rather irrelevant in the whole picture.
And thanks Gary for the confirmation.
