Gaspare,
My thanks to you and your friend for the images. First time I have seen a reverse view. Interesting design to the added bars.

Adding this photo from some old files I had.
Not sure if its a period photo or not. Interesting as it shows a few different sizes / variations!

I'd love to see more IF, if anyone has one.... Sad to say the piece I opened this topic with,,the owner had passed away a long while ago.. The family had this and many other high end items that went to a auction.. Somewhere between them thinking which auction and other details this MC brooch had gotten lost!... Don't think it was ever recovered A wonderful cased example gone.... So actually what I've been seeing there is a lot of variation with these.. Some very slight differences some not even close... Wondering if any period documentation on these. Were they 'official' etc.. Really hope another turns up ,,it'd be really nice to do a observation on it, a comparison,etc... Come on guys,,,anything,,period photo, an example, documentation etc.,,,post away!

Authorized 16 December 1938, first awarded on Mother's Day, 21 May 1939 and last awarded in 1944. In mid-1939, a miniature medal was approved to be worn on a ribbon bow or brooch. The brooch was prohibited in mid-1940, making them fairly rare. Below is a nice bronze award.

Wow,, so mid 39 to mid 40! No wonder they are rare.
A manufacture won;t make them if they're not an approved item.. Really in years being in the hobby I've seen maybe a handful at the shows including collections.. For the MC collecter thats got to be a hot piece to get... Nice example posted there Vern,,,, Thanks very much for the info...........

These were only awarded on Mother's Day each year. The 1st pattern was only awarded in 1939. The mid-1939 order changed the inscription on the reverse. The obverse stayed the same. 1st pattern on the left, 2nd pattern on the right.

So 1938 they had the 'standard' pattern MC..
"These were only awarded on Mother's Day each year. The 1st pattern was only awarded in 1939. The mid-1939 order changed the inscription on the reverse"
So am I understanding this correctly,,they were only made for around 6 months give or take??. I always thought this was a Ailsby dream up thing.....
- Vern,,,is this your example?,,, you have photo of obverse?

My understanding from John Angolia is that the 1st pattern were only awarded on 21 May 1939. The 2nd pattern was awarded from 1940 to 1944. Here are photos of the obverse

Mr. Angolia,,,Good guy from the golden age of collecting! So one issue date! Thats really something,, and I guess the reason you don't see them anywhere... And,, 3 pretty big differences seen on the obverse. : See Red,Blue, Black lines - enamel, starburst, word placement. So is it yours? ,you don't have to answer that... - Did you know John Angolia personally? Wasn't he like a Colonel in the military?? - thanks again for photos and info...........,G.

And the thickness of the swaz is different. I had it for awhile but got talked out of it. I knew John and learned a great deal from him. He was a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel and quite a character

The silver 1st pattern shown above is an early reproduction. Here is a photo of an original 1st pattern in gold.

Out of interest, does anyone know whether the 1st pattern exists in miniature as well, or only full size?

Don't know but would say not as the miniature cross was approved at the same time that the inscription was changed.

If you look at the gallery, the first two broaches and the first two pins all have plain backs.
