The TeNo Officer's Dolch and the TeNo NCO/EM Hauer/Hewer were introduced in 1938 (if I remember correctly.) They had been actually designed and drawn up by Paul Casberg as early as 1936.)
The new TeNo Sidearms were announced in the DDP (Die Deutsch Polizei) issue of Jan 1, 1939(which isn't surprising, since the TN was a Police 'affiliated' Organization since 1937)
Here is the Cover of the Issue... Txs, Dave/dblmed

Here is the Article - with the Announcement of the issuing of the Dolch and Hauer.
Fascinating history is found in the old Publications & in Photos! Txs, Dave/dblmed

Photos of the TeNo Hewer in wear don't surface too often, so when they do - grab them!
This Photo (a bit blurred) is of a TeNo-Mann in 1940 in France, wearing the Hewer (no Troddeln seen, by me).
What is unusual is that he wears the TeNo off-white Drillich Top, along with the TeNo Field-Gray Uniform trousers - worn by the usual 'outside of the Reich' TN-Einsatztruppen.
(I doubt that this was an 'official approved' Uniform combination - but here it is in wear, as photo-documentation!) The photo also confirms that the TeNo troops took their Hewers with them, when they went off to war (in France, at least).

This photo is of a proud TeNo Dad with his Daughter, out in the snow for a Photo.
He's wearing the classic TeNo dunkelblau Uniform and he has his trusty TeNo Hewer at his side.
(Again, there is no troddeln present - so, if the TN guys weren't wearing their troddeln, maybe that is why it's hard for us to find them today?) Txs, Dave/dblmed

Pat, There are even fewer Photos of the Hewer, with the Knot. I can only think of 2, TN Knot in wear, Photos. There is a photo of one in Littlejohn's book, and... Ed Augustine posted this Photo on 20 June 2007 on the TeNo Thread, on the Police Uniform Forum: (Home of the TeNo) http://daggers.infopop.cc/eve/...744/m/2280097494/p/6You can see a TeNo Knot on the Hewer in Ed's Photo. The 2nd Photo is from Bender/Littlejohn's "Defending the Reich" (Buy the Book!)
Photo is credited to Clive Davis, who has the most outstanding TeNo all-around collection that there is. This photo also appears in Col. T. Johnson's latest book as well. Dave/dblmed

Glad that the photos were of interest.
For those of us who are interested in the TeNo, there is a brand new book out which has over 200 pages of super TeNo information, with Photos, Charts and TeNo Items.
It is "THE BOOK" for those interested in learning all about the TeNo TN. The book is:
Uniforms Organization and History of the German Police: Vol. 2 By John R. Angolia and Hugh Page Taylor
Vol. 2 covers 5 of the major branches of the Polizei organization: TeNo / TN - Technical Emergency Corps Protection Police Traffic Police Municipal Police Gendarmerie (including Motorized branch) and
The book will is huge, at 808 pages & 1,083 photos / illustrations. (More to See and More to Learn!) It's a real winner...
http://www.bender-publishing.com/UniformsOrgHistoryGermanPoliceVol2-2.html
I got a chance to read the Chapter 19 TeNo portion of this book pre-publication. The degree of Detail and Explanation, as well as the depth of previously unknown (unseen) information, and well as historical documentation - is without any comparison. This will soon become 'THE' Reference.
I've got my order in for a couple - (one to Use and one to Archive) - and I can't wait for their arrival! ... Txs, Dave/dblmed

Serge, good stuff! keep them coming! IMO the TENO are truly undervalued daggers as they are "rare" in any condition.

You got that right Eric! Just ask DblMed on how scarce it is to find "standard" TENO insignia anymore. Come to think of it, it wasn't around in any volume back in the old days either. Very Nice Full Rig Leader there Eric. There is a scarce dagger that along with the Postschutz should be a lot higher valuation than what they are today IMO. Great Triple treat there from Wotan! Pat...super killer Hewer... Dave, (dblmed) has unselfishly shared all his finds with us... a big thanks to you sir. ..and ED..it was good to see you too at the SOS. As it was to meet Jim Modena, Ryan Sellick and all the rest of the regular crew (too many names to mention). it's you guys that bring "life" to the artifacts. The people behind the presevation of the history. -serge-

Patrice... Please excuse all of us as TeNo Afficianado's in hi-jacking your superb TeNo Hewer thread!! Pardon tout! It stands on it's own - Exquisite! Thanks Serge & ALL the Guys. A Lot of us as collectors appreciate the beauty of the TeNo Daggers and Hewers, and their varied Accoutrements. [I have read that the TN Dagger was the ONLY TR Dagger to have 2 official designated hangers? ?True?] Here is a photo of a 1940 - mid 1943 TeNo Kameradschaftsfhrer with his TeNo Dagger in wear. Unfortunately, we can't see which type of hanger he is using for this studio pose. (He also wears the Ultra-Rarely Seen TeNo 'cut-out' sleeve Eagle, NOT the normal Triangle patch - on his Field-Grey TN Uniform - but that is a story for the TeNo GDC Uniform thread.) http://daggers.infopop.cc/eve/...3059744/m/2280097494Txs, Dave/dblmed

Bad scan , only two leaders, but with the rare (and original!!! there are about 70-80% faked ones around) leather hanger and proper belt loops. Regards,

Nice set of 2. To the best of my knowledge there has been no photos of the leather "working" hangers documented? Obviously they were used, Are there any documents?

Wotan ...Splendid pair of TeNo Officer Daggers, and FULL Accoutrements! CONGRATS! Yes, the leather hanger is more difficult to locate, but also those belt loops are tough to find also!
Eric ... TeNo documentation, of all types, is very slooooooowly coming to the surface. Littlejohn (RIP), on page 532 of his "Defending the Reich" showed period color illustrations of the two types of hangers (but, that is the only true period documentation that I am aware of.)
TeNo Leather Hangers in Wear ...Since Wotan kindly showed us 2 super TeNo Officer examples, then a photo of 2 TeNo Officers, BOTH of whom are using the Leather Hangers, fits in well. (There may be other photos? T. Johnson's new table book? But the following is the only one that I know of, but I am sure that others will gradually surface.)
Sorry for a bit blurry, as I took this from a much larger photo in my Tn collection.
The date is mid 1942, inside of Schnbrun Castle - Vienna, with TN / TeNo Landesfhrer XVII Walther Junecke (later to be TN Chef der Stabs and GenMaj. der Schutzpolizei) on the LEFT - - - and - - - his 'Adjutant' Bezirksfhrer G. Jordan on the RIGHT. Both = Using Leather Hangers. ...Txs, Dave/dblmed

TN Leather Hangers in Wear - Close Up
The Hangers passed through a Uniform pocket slit - so we can't see Wotan's super belt attachment!

Tom Johnson and I just bought Dick Page's collection and it contains some TeNo items that I will post photos of in the next few days. Some really interesting items to include the first pattern TeNo Leader's Dagger with no TN inspection mark on the blade and serial number 0021. Also, he had both sets of hangers (Brown Leather and Fabric) with a nice TN hewer. Ron Weinand
