Since i'm trying to make an effort to stay active on all 3 of the mainstream boards, you guys may have seen this post on WAF and MCF. If so, this i'll bore you.

I added this Holler 30 recently. I was able to acquire her at a very attractive price. From the photos, she was very dirty. However, I could ascertain that the dirt was merely surface dirt with some small areas of oxidation. Upon receiving her, she was given a quick dry bath, then a homemade sudsy amonia bath, followed by spot cleaning with semichrome and a light blade pollishing, and finally a light waxing for preservation. Her knot (which was in excellent shape but dry, very dry) was removed and is currently undergoing re-moisturizing for a week or so.

This Holler is an earlier example, utilizing a mix of mnaufacturing meathods including cast and hand engraved hilt parts. The langets and quillion are cast, while the d-guard, pommel and bakcstrap are cast in hand scrolling. The handwork was completed by a rather skilled craftsman as the acorn/sprigs are well done and clean. Her gilting rates around 90%ish, her blade would qualify as mint. The scabbard is intact, both runners accounted for. The paint has some issues and rates aroun 80%. It appears there were touch-up along the way. It was done long ago. It's conceivable the touch-ups were period, otherwise probably done at least 40-50 years ago I would think.

The 30 is not a rare saber, but not an overly common, too often produced piece. The price was right and the photos I believe turned some other prospective buyers off. My experience told me this one was a nice example, underneath her dirty "pig-pen" appearance.

Just though i'd share.

Good collecting fellas.

The obverse langets bottom half was very dirty and almost looked black. The sudsy and a soft toothbrush were able to rectify the aesthetics.
