What does the roman numeral I mean on a SS cross gaurd? Also has anyone been able to find out who the maker is for 188/35

distribution mark "I" indicates it was issued in the Munich area and 188/XX is currently an unknown maker, but is considered a legit marking. Forum member Krause just bought one but I am unsure of the distribution mark on his.

Yup, there is lots of info about this dagger, just that the maker has not been attached to a name yet like many of the other RZM marks out there. It is known for being a high-quality early period dagger that exhibits the same excellent workmanship as all the early maker-marked pieces. This one is talked about (and pictured) in Wittmann's SS book. Dave Hohaus (forum moderator) knows a lot about these daggers as well. They have been discussed here in the past. Very nice daggers!
