Gentlemen,

May I ask your opinions please?

I have this early, no ricasso, Anton Wingen JR knife. It looks fine to.
Except for the diamond: it is mounted ON the grip! It is strongly attached, it does not move and I cannot see if under it a part was cut out to hold a (smaller?) diamond... It does not look like a replacement diamond to me...

Has anyone seen this before? All comments are most welcome.

Some pictures are attached.

Best greetings,

Herman

Hallo Herman,

I'm no HJ expert but from what I can see the reverse rivets look askew which would lead me to believe they may have been replacement rivets. That said, the obverse rivet heads don't look completely good either but I'm sure one of the HJ huys would know for sure.

Are the grip plates flush to the hilt? I'm not sure, they look like they are for the most part but some pics seem to show a bit of a gap.

Thanks for the opinion, Billy.

I found this treat, which assures me:

Hi Herman,

Good point, you may indeed be right. I've learned to stay away from bayonets with such gaps so I'm always aprehensive about them.

The rivets and grips are early. Contrary to what many may think all diamonds were not the same size originally. some were up to 1/5 smaller on early knives and the cutout matched. I think what we have here is early grips with smaller cutout and a regular sized diamond. Not a one of a kind by any means but seen every now and then. Others may disagree but I have seen to many of these on early knives to believe otherwise. its great to be back home after a 2 week judges school. Russ
