Perhaps this forum should be renamed.... Third Reich

I mean no offense but it seems there is so little interest in the imperial period which by the way supported the so called third reich.

Good ole Adolph could not have done what he did if it was not for the support of imperial period.

Oh well.... if I have irritated some of you I am NOT sorry. You need to expand your appreciation of the german people.

Sorry Bill but I needed to say this.

Good Ole Rod

Rod, there is interest in WWI awards and history.
I would guess sometimes there is just not much that can be added except nice/great piece. Smile Take for instance the following link,
http://daggers.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/422097573/m/5470031944
at least your comment recieved more views and one more reply to date. Roll Eyes
Please continue posting, I do enjoy seeing WWI awards even if I do not always comment.

Rod,

The imperial period in Germany was the second reich which ended when the Kaiser abdicated.

You are right. Very few people here care at all for WWI stuff. We had 2 WWI areas at one time but collapsed them into one because of lack interest.

I remember when I was a kid that there were still WWI vets around to talk to. We had a VA hospital in town where kids would go up on the hill and hear veteran's stories as visitors were encouraged by the hospital. Now they are almost all gone.

Another view of the Liberty Memorial WWI Museum and Monument in Kansas City. The central tower is an eternal flame. There is an elevator inside so you can ride up to see the view. An extraordinary place and monument to those who fought.

Thanks for commenting guys.

Honestly I do not want to offend but since there is an imperial forum here run by a really great guy (Bill W.) it just seems a shame there is not more interest.

I am on another forum too that has lots of imperial period interest, but I sort of like it here.

I just acquired my third imperial decoration... a cased Bavarian MVO with swords with a real gold medallion center. The rest is gilt silver (950). What a beautiful work of art!! Sorry I have no pics.... I really have to work on that.

Imperial items are sure not cheap but I think they represent real value compared to TR. But then again, it all depends on what turns your crank.

I was just trying to stir things up a bit about renaming this forum!!!!

I think TR collecting versus imperial is sort of like rifles compared to shotguns collecting. Seems like it is a completely different mentality.

SOOOOOOO .... lets just enjoy the best of both worlds.... sigh (I really do like the imperial items .... ha ha).

Gents,

I read this last thread with great interest and quite a bit of personal embarrassment - please accept my sincere apologies for my lacklustre performance as moderator of the imperial forum ...

The members of these forums are deserving of the best and I've come nowhere near the mark. Excuses are not my forte' and I loathe having to make interesting comments and social-niceties on so many subjects that I know nothing about without immediately having to delve into my own research.

The past several months have been quite demanding on my personal time. That, coupled with my meagre knowledge in this expansive area has also surely led to a decline in interest in this time period and precursor to the Third Reich. So, I'm calling for a transfusion - fresh blood please ..!

I think Rod would make a perfect candidate and nominate him for the position of moderator, Dave how about seconding that..?

Many thanks!

Bill Warda

Bill,

You are doing just fine moderating this forum. The only problem is that WW! does not captivate the imagination of the GDC membership as much as TR stuff.

Your efforts are greatly appreciated. Many thanks,

Dave

Hello Bill,

It was never my intention to be critical of you. You are one of the guys that makes GD a class forum. Your past personal favors to me have been greatly appreciated.

I was merely trying to help you in stimulating interest of others in this forum. Please excuse my poor taste and bad judgement.

I truly apologize to you Bill. I am sorry.

I would not want to loose you as a friend and moderator. I could not begin to fill your shoes in this area.

I suggest that the way to stimulate this or any forum and increase discussion would be to keep posting WWI artifacts.

If people see good and interesting things they are likely to show their own items. Also, folks remember them and maybe ... at the next show will be tempted to buy something similar.

I agree, the more items posted and information shared, the more interest will be generated! Smile

I also agree that William is a class act that can not and should not be replaced. Cool

A comoderator with a shining interest in Imperial may indeed be in order, one man can only do so much. I would second Bills thought of Rod as comoderator. Wink

Maybe I should continue to be quiet but something in me just cannot let this alone..

First of all, Bill Warda is one of the finest most capable gentleman that I have known.

I am deeply hurt that I have made him feel embarrassment for there is absolutely no reason for it.

Yes, I have wandered into the imperial period and have become fascinated with it and frustrated that others here do not share my enthusiasm.

All I can say is that the imperial period is extremely interesting and the fault for lack of interest lies not in Bill. He cannot interact unless we give him something to work with.

The fault is absolutely not with him. It is with those like me that feed off his expertise.

I am not sure how to stimulate interest. Seems like it is like pushing a string.

Dave, I am sorry to be a pain. If you wish to expel me I will be the first to applaude you. Perhaps this thread should be closed or better yet deleted.

Guess I just need to publicly thank Bill. Good
job Willi!!!! We don't deserve you but I am glad you are here.

So, to continue pushing the string. Wink What about Rod becoming a comoderator? I feel a person who likes this forum and has a fascination with the subject would be an asset!

I took a long leave of absence from the forums to focus on school. I had a lot of Imperial items until I sold my collection. By definition there should be more Imperial items out there than Third Reich. The imperial forum is just about the only one outside of the period history forum that I check.

I guess I can take some blame as well. I have a nice [relatively small] Imperial military collection, as I also find it fascinating, but I rarely comment on this page. Most of my postings are on the BCN and Firearms pages.

I have a number of Imperial unit marked bayonets, Lugers, holsters, belt buckles, etc that I enjoy collecting. There is so much identifyable history in these items.
