Nice cutlass.
The crest is for a Garde unit, an elite group within the Imperial German Army. The cutlass is a relatively common subordinate forestry cutlass. Together, if all original, a very nice variation.

I think Roger has it spot on, these Hirschfängers are quite rare, I have seen the garde star affixed on both the clamshell and grip.

There were two Guard Jager units in WWI. They carried a number of different types of Hirschfangers-most are not issue but private purchase pieces.
