Posted this on WAF but someone there said Houston's forum was the place to go with this.
Here's what I know: This was brought back from the war (WW2).
From the tip of the sheath to the end of the handle the "package" is about 19-1/2" long. I'm thinking 'size matters', eh?
Sheath is leather with metal (magnetic) engraved trim. Only marks on the blade are a few Xs on one side & double Xs on the other. Handle is bone. Sorry for the photos being washed out but I didn't take them.
One of the guys at WAF said "It's a Waidpraxe, a very old German hunting weapon, condition is not the best but still quite a rare item, not much call for these unless it's what you collect."
The owner is looking for an offer & I haven't a clue. Can any one help with what this might be & what it's worth?
Thanx in advance for any theories. Rick C.

The name waidpraxe is correct,or in simpler terms, a trousse that was used in the field to dress the kill, chop up the meat, etc. Some of these go back to the 1600, but this one I would put in early to mid 1800 and not as fancy as many of the old ones were. Email me at [email protected] if still available. Thanks, James
