Without cluttering the other thread, this etched SS bayonet is considered to be a fantasy piece? It is a nice bayonet otherwise, unmatched with scabbard and a purple felt insert in the pommel.
Thanks
Jeff

Voodoo, Yes, it is a fantasy piece. It seems they chrome plated yours. Some are plated, some are blued, and some are polished. All with fake etching (and in this case chrome plating) that never existed on issue S84/98 during WWII. George

There is a market for them however. They sell for about $150.00 to $200.00 on a regular basis even though they never existed in that period. That looks like a nice one from the pictures. Mark

I for one am one of those sad collectors who collect these, but too often people bid on them as real items and put them way over what i am prepared to spend on them. Did get a beautifil early 70's one all blued with raised runes and text polished silver, gorgeous but so fake

Yeah, its the pits getting outbid on a fake I previewed this today, along with some other repro garbage at an estate sale comming up this weekend. Someone appears to be dumping a few unwantables to the unsuspecting. Thanks for the help Jeff

A fool and his money are soon parted. Absolutly amazing! Even the unit designation is a fantasy unit. George
