I like to show some of my helmets displayed in an old barn. Something completely different then putting them on shelves.

Some helmets are hanging on rusty nails at the wall of the barn.
Some helmets are on an little attic in the barn.

The barn is a lifelike diorama build by me and is containing several fully equipted mannequins .
It's a representation of german soldiers having a rest/shelter in an old barn somewhere in Germany during the winter of 1944/1945.

That is a very unique display. Has anyone ever commented on getting an eerie feeling when entering this display area?

Hello Thijs

very nice display, I like it a lot.
The only thing that might cause for some damage is hanging the helmets on those nails, no?? Or it could give the chinstrap a pointed shape because of the weight of the helmet itself...

But, you have talent, well done

Best regards
Nick H

Thanks for the nice comments.

Jim, you are right; several times people get that eerie feeling entering my display room. It looks very life-like esp. by visiting the diorama at the first time.
I spend a lot of work of the diorama esp. in the little details.

I hope somedays the helmet got chickenwire instead of chickensh*t when I open the door. Big Grin

I'm very carefull hanging those helmets on the wall. No trace of damage sofar.

Thanks for looking.

FANTASTIC- What a great way to display fake helmets!! Ha-ha-ha-ha Just kidding!! I DO have a sick sense of humor. SERIOUSLY, looks SUPER!! A barn is probably where you'd find German troopers seeking shelter. That's why it looks so perfect. Hat's off to you and your wonderful display.

Tell me about the little wood stove in one of the photos. Is it military? I have a stove that looks a little like that, its called a Buddy. It has a machine gunner cast into its front door.

that's certainly a different way of displaying a collection!
only thing is i'd be worried about the helmets & other militaria getting weathered by changes in temperature, chickensh*t etc.how can you be sure your gear can withstand these things?

Hi Dan, this stove came out a real German bunker at the East Prussian town called Magdeburg.

Smile
I build the lifelike "old barn"on my attic. So no worry's.

I sold everything yet because I stopped collecting uniforms/equipment. Also sold many helmets.
