Member Damascus has been trying to help identify the maker. It is distributor marked with a US distributor that I was told stopped distributing swords in the US in 1920. It would help if someone could verify this.

Hi Jim,

This is a great sword! It has all the bells and whistles.

According to Bezdek's "American Swords and Sword Makers" Allien was in business until 1948. He is listed using this "Henry V. Allien & Co." marking from 1876-1948. I have discovered some mistakes in Bezdek's research though, so I would take this time period with a grain of salt.

They are nice socks...

George

Thanks Orpo. I believe you are absolutely correct on Alliens dates. They are apparently most famouse for their buttons. What I had heard was that in 1920 they quit distributing swords. It would have made it easy.

As it is, I am hoping someone has an import catalogue from solingen from either the imperial period or the Weimar era to see if this pattern is present.

Jim
