just wanted to say it is a pleasure to see a pinned thread on this subject. Bahnschutz and Reichsbahn (to a lesser extent) have been my number one passion of mine for many years now. I have done as much deep research as I have been able too so far and am still working on it. finding and talking to other collectors of this branch and dealers and collectors from around the world of other fields to find out what I can. I even had a chance to talk to one Bahnschutz vet (not many made it out of the war) (I will try and explain in the future) which I must admit did not amount to much due to the language barrier and the short time aloud. but I have been lucky enough to find several older gentlemen ( not that I am young) that have spent years looking into this rare para-military branch and have seen some of the few documents that survived and in depth interviews with some of the prevalent third reich parties involved.

after all this said, I what to say I am not an expert. I will never say this is the way it is and if you don't like my answer to bad you are wrong. I, as well as you guys are here to learn and discuss. I just want to share what I have learned. there are several questions and misconception I think I can help clear up for what I have read on this pinned topic. (soon I hope, single dad with several jobs makes time hard to come by)

just want to post this for now as it sounds like it might disappear if it is left idol for to long and I would hate to see that happen.

great stuff guys!! lets see more!

George

George,
the mouse gray backed boards indicate " Reserve" most of the untouched uniforms I have seen are reserve units. most of the later bahnschutz personnel held dual ranks in either the heer or ss. later in the war the non essential bahnschutz personnel (mainly the reserves) were called up into their wehrmact units. hence leaving there banhschutz uniforms back at home.
the 15 is for Koln.

Thanks Jim. I looks like I'm confussed as usual concerning the strap I couldn't think of the rank on. I got them with the 2 pair of moth damaged ones so the color led me to think they were Bahnschutzpolizei. This is what happens when I go to shows after being at work for 24 hours and no sleep. Time to hit the books. I don't have anything on Kleinbahn, so any help is welcomed.
Love the cufftitle in your avitar.

raymond, I hope you don't feel bad about this. me personally would be ecstatic. kleinbahn is the smaller locally ran railway systems including the electric trolleys . there were no regulations governing them so it was up to the town, city or local municipality to choose the patterns they used. what collar backing, piping, what style winged wheel, ciphers, pips, litzen etc.
no to cities wanted to be the same so they are extremely varied. and very rare.
here are some pics of tabs that might go with it. but like I said it varies

No, I'm not disapointed in getting the strap as I like railway items. I just wish I could keep all the needed info in my head when I need it Big Grin. I guess this tab I have is Kleinbahn. I'd love to see a thread about all the railway organization someday, and soon. There's a lot of info that's not recorded anywhere. I don't recall to many books on the Reichsbahn. Great tabs, thanks for showing them. Looking forward to seeing more someday.

I would like to give a brief overview of the tunics and collar tabs. 1933 they authorized new collar tabs and shoulder boards for the dark blue tunics. the tabs were the ss style using pips and oak leaves. in 1936 they change the tabs to the military style litzen for lower ranks up to the army "feather" general tabs.although they did not find they way to all directorates untill early 38 and are usually referred as the 38 uniforms. in 1941 the authorized the new lighter horizon blue uniforms the the more familiar winged wheel (Flugelrad) style tabs.
the bahnschutz reserves mainly served in occupied territories especially in Russia (with special wehrmact training) and wore the field gray uniforms identified with the wehrmacht. i do not know of any of the gray uniforms that servived. someone posted that they knew of one. can you please contact me as i would like to study and document it very much if possible.(willing to travel to see it) this is just a brief rundown for now. will try and post some photos and get into the boards.
