Bernd,

Great uniform and cap shots. I particularly like the Erel Officer cap.

I was able to get a few shots of the dark blue uniform this morning. This one is the same rank and from the same 2nd Abt. as Doug's light blue tunic. This 1938 dated tunic is also marked to RBD Stuttgart. Is Doug's marked to a specific railhead by chance?

Here is a shot of the back showing the typical Rock cut with a boxed tail. Notice that this style of BZP tunic has the police eight button front, slash lower pockets, and no French cuffs.

George : During our visit to the SOS on Febr. 24-27 in 2005, I took these photos of a Bahnschutz tunic and visor cap laying on a seller's table.
So, someone out there must own these items !!!
The number on the shoulder board is '19' .

Bernd,

Good pictures of the SOS stuff. There are a few of these BZP uniforms out there but not a lot. I agree with Pat that they are few and far between. The dark blue ones seem to be particularly hard to find.

"Did the BZP ever wear fieldgray uniforms? A dealer I know says they did. His grandfather was in the BZP and he said he has the uniform and period photos. I've yet to see them though. I did pick up a fieldgrey visor hat years ago that looks good to me but I've been told by a knoweldgeable friend that the BZP never wore fieldgrey uniforms. I thought it possible because towards the end of the war, didn't the BZP come under control of the SS?"

Raymond,

I am afraid I forgot to answer your question above. The Bahnschutzpolizei did not wear fieldgrey to my knowledge but they were not the only railway security units on the line. The Zugwacht and the Bahnhofwacht did wear fieldgrey with gorgets like the Feldpolizei. There were also armed Railway Pioneer (Eisenbahntruppen) units that were under the wartime control of the Wehrmacht that wore regular fieldgrey Heer uniforms. It may well be that this fellow was assigned to one of these units. Most police and security units came under some partial control of Heinrich Himmler because they usually derived their authority as Auxiliary Police from him as Chief of the German Police. The BZP had their own chain of command though and was only responsible to Himmler for short emergency tactical assignments (like the other police agencies).

George, Thanks for that information. I will have to look into those organizations. I wonder if these organizations, and BZP, will be covered in the new volume on Police by forum member hpt?
I'll try and take some individual photos of my meger items soon. Thanks to everyone for posting photos of there amazing BZP items. This is one area I'd like to focus on (besides TeNo) and can't seem to get enough of.

I also got this large-size silvered visor cap insignia . It measures 2 5/8-inches across .
The interesting design shows a railroad wheel with wings and lightning bolts , and above it all ,the DAF insignia .
I was told it was for the railroad protective service on the KdF Railroad 'Faehrschiffe'.

Bernd, your first pin is for the Postschutz. The second is a hat badge for Municipal tramway personal. If it didn't have the lightning bolts comming out of the wheel it would be for staff of private railways.

What fantastic items all of you guys have shown, of this small and still under-appreciated (outside of this Forum!) branch of the TR Polizei! ALL of this isn't in the 'books' yet! Thanks for sharing! Dave/dblmed

Very interesing thread about this little-known topic! Thanks to all for sharing pics!

Somewhere on Internet I found this pic (I apologize to owner for sharing this pic, but I forgot the address of this site and could not find it once more).
It seems in 1936 existed two branches of armed units in RVM - Bahnschutz & Bahnpolizei. This shoulder board seems to be for Streifer of Bahnpolizei - in UM from 16.6.1936 I found some data to it - link to that text is here:
http://www.tenzor.cz/lbsr/dr/uf/sch_pol-wchtm.html
This shoulder board is very specific - there are
NO inner cords, only outer "V" cords and in place of inner cords the black cloth underlay only!!!
