I'm no expert but I have an opinion....

1. You have to be real careful with these types.

2. I do not see anything on this one that looks like a "Red Flag" to me. But better listen to the 'experts'.

Pictures not so good. Looks OK, but the blade tip looks strange in the photo.

There are some things that make me wonder:

1. Pommel is screwed with two screws on both sides (should be with one on the back of the pommel)

2. Eteching is a little diferent to my Eick especialy exclamation sign.

3. I have never seen before (but I might be wrong)Eick HJ leader with logo. All I know are RZM marked.

4. The eteching is to far from the crossguard.

regards

I dont like that wide etch, all the examples Ive seen regardless of maker is much thinner and sharper, much more well defined.

Yes, very much so Collectors Militaria has one with a Hoerster MM, can you believe that? I seem to want to follow Rons opinion on MM leaders as far as Eickhorns go. T

Come on boys! There are SEVERAL different early Eickhorn TM variations on the HJ Leader. Unplated blades with the Eickhorn style motto, plated blades with the Eickhorn style motto, both with the Eickhorn TM and not RZM marked.
Soft scabbards with the fittings SCREWED ON, scabbards wtih the solid body and still the Eickhorn TM, Pommels that screw on and are not pinned, pinned pommels, etc..
Until someone does a good reference book on the HJ series, don't get all shook up about variations by Eickhorn, as they DO exist.

Hello Tiep,

Yes, there are original Eickhorns with the makersmark.

The best advice you can get on these is Ron's.

Best greetings,

Herman

While I accept Ron's reasoning as to the scarce Eickhorn variations, I doubt this is one of them.

I find it odd that this seller has this rare HJ for 2000 Euros, way under valued, and he happened to have a similar one a few months back, also sold cheap. He has lots of exotic bargains going cheap in his spam mailings. I for one wouldn't touch it, even at his great prices. I still don't like the motto or the Horster style locket eagle.

Here's the other one he recently had, almost identical in every way...

Not the same guy at all, although the etch looks the same- crappy- and so do the scabbard hanger rings-thin-, the rounded bottom of the lower scab fitting bugs me too.sooo its very questionable so far. The guy didnt spam mail , it was for sale to public domain.T

Tiep, it's the same seller, the pics were even taken on the same background. I received both set of pics from the same fellow, the one recently and the other in May. Here's the priced pic of the one you showed at the start of the thread.

Tiep,

I got the same pics last week. Although the initial pics weren't good enough to vet most pieces, my thought was why would someone sell very valuable daggers at such discount rates unless something was amiss?

Believe me , I wasnt taking the bait read my comments, but sometimes you do get lucky and I have by chasing daggers KOd from ebay, etc. 3 times to be exact. I stated 3 major concerns on this dagger being discussed and they did prove to be NOT GOOD in my eyes. I would however love to have an early Eickhorn HJ Leaders in a rare configuration. T Wink
