Hi, just two frogs i picked up lately. I'd been after one of the metal backed frogs for about two years and finally snagged probably one of the best ive seen for £6 ($9) off eban no less!
It was listed in the vietnam section, the seller thought DRP could stand for something like deocratic republic for the people or something like that
I saw one in much worse condition than mine on a website priced at £80 ($140) are they realy priced at anywhere near that? thats about the only one i've found on a dealer website so i have no idea, seems way to high though.

The second one is the frog i need answers to. First off it seems more basically made for a KS98 frog, the lug hole is teardrop and not rouns and the rivets are different to most ive seen. I first thought it may be stamped for the year 1945, but as parade bayonets and daggers weren't produced this late in the war i'm unsure if parade frogs weren't made either.
Then i thought it may be a property number, at worst i thought it might be a repro. However i know the variations on frogs are many due to the amount of small cottage industries producing them.
What are your opinions?

Andrew, It’s not a date so I would go with an accountability number of some kind. Comparable rivet variations are seen on military issue frogs for combat bayonets. And I have a new condition (unissued) combat bayonet frog with the same teardrop shape for the frog stud hole, dated as I recall 1940 or 1941. The frog looks OK from the image, but I would also see if it smells like old German leather - just to be sure. Regards, FP

I just picked up a K98 at the MAX. I was a little curious about the fact that the frog is marked "1925". I thought that would be too early of a date, perhaps it too is an accountability mark?

With a date there should also be a maker so that they could be held accountable if the frog was defective. A "1925" by itself, sight unseen, is most probably some kind of accountability number. FP
