I only have two HJ knives and both are strange. The first is a beat-up one with a green stone instead of the HJ diamond. Unskilled vet work from the looks of it.

It will be interesting to see what Russ and others have to say but your grip plates should be easily removable with the right kind of screwdriver.
Now that blade looks like something I would have owned as a kid! Roll Eyes Big Grin

Dave:
Are you sure that those are screws? They almost look like some old fashioned type of pop-rivets.

Pack is famous for using those type of screws on their bayonets. They did not seem to use them on fireman "bayonets" though. Very early HJ, interesting and I think correct!

Very nice one Ed. These spanners by Pack are very early and scarce to rare.
Pack and Weyersberg used the spanner bolts during the early to middle 1930s on their bayonets of the period and was not unusual for these two. You will also notice the larger than normal checkering on the grip plates and the sometimes bluing to the scabbard instead of paint.

Weinand Militaria
PS John: I don't think Pack made a Fireman's Bayonet as early as some of the other manufacturers, hence no spanners on them.

Ron To tell the truth I never looked at the grip untill you posted about the spanner bolts along time ago.At that time I had 3HJ's and it joined the rest.5+ yrs ago HJ were not to important daggers and were around $50-100. Cool
