Did anybody see Bill Shea's new offering?
M 35, ( I think) , "reversed "Foreign Vol." helmet.I know the whole concept of For. Vols. is touchy. It's for sale for 9,700.00
Comments, private or otherwise?

Hi Paul,
It is an M35 and it originally came from Kelly Hicks. He believes it was an SS Polizei division helmet .Its a very nice helmet.

Wow, that's quite the update...four SS helmets. Looking at them on his site, they all seem to be very real to me, albeit somewhat pricey. The price for the RZM absolutely floors me.

one thing i can say in defence of Bill is that he does offer the best layaway I know for big items such as M35 DD SS helmets, up to a year to pay, which is helpful for many people and he has one of the best return policies. I have never had a problem dealing with Bill.
How many reverse DD SS helmets have been on the market recently or in the last year. None to my recollection. I bought 3 helmets from Bill last year which were expensive then but present prices have long overtaken what I paid for them and I have been offered much more than originally paid for each of the 3 helmets.

Hey Tony,
Not questioning the helmet...have Foreign Vol. helmets come of age? Almost 10 grand..
Some of the folk here have their doubts. Youu know me, if it came from KH, I'm in. But , whoa!!
Still wish I'd caught your para..

Bill Shea knows his customer base and prices his items accordingly. His public prices are just fine. SS helmet prices ARE really crazy, however, within unreported sales. Eek

Sorry, my point wasn't the price...just that from the reaction to my FV SS, I am amazed, (and delighted) to see that price level. My real question was, what am I missing? suddenly they are respectable? The one in question is very special, but is that the new plateau?
I will say that I was offered a FV helmet from that source, at twice the cost of the one I eventually bought. No slam, just an observation.
Deacal origin aside..vetted by the same source, yet some here had reservations.
Whats up?

I don't think anyone will or has disputed the originality a reversed runes DD SS. They are very rare and highly sought after and of course expensive when one becomes avaliable. Wether they are strictly Foreign volunteer is speculation in my opinion. I think its a case of reissue, Polizei/SS transfer and Foreign volunteer.
The controversy is with helmets with the new decal which has been named the "Foreign Vol." SS decal.

I agree with Perry that these were exclusively used by Foreign volunteers is pure speculation. I guess this comes from a number of photos showing foreign volunteer units wearing them, and is a theory that has stuck within the collecting community. For me, I cannot in my wildest imagination picture a regulation limiting these helmets to volunteers. In fact, from what I can recall I don't even think I have seen one photo of a Norwegian volunteer wearing one of these.

Nevertheless a rare and desirable helmet. I think it is the first time I have seen one offered for sale to the public.

They are nice original pieces. Certainly amazing to see a reversed SS on a dealer's site. Bill has good sources of materials. He spends fair amount of money to buy these, so his price is understandable in this respect. The new feature on his site looks good too. This makes it a lot easier to look through his items. Gotta keep an eye on it.
