Sounds like these are very common ,are they not worth as much as the aluminum or steel ones?

Indeed correct and maybe the reason been their earlier origins (from 1931 to - at least - 1934) where none was worn at combat (so heavily lost or damaged). Their condition dictates their price and this one is in excellent condition. Some collectors have a mint aluminum and a mint steel but none mint NS (Nickel Silver). Those will be ready to commit. For the intensive SS buckles collector maybe not the same value but well over a common unmarked steel Overhoff (even in mint conition)!

Don't be worry about its tongue. Maybe it is just thirsty to find love of a new owner ... Very nice original Overhoff !
