Gentlemen, I was not really searching for any Army dagger but when something as nice as this, comes along your way, you can't say no as you may never get a second chance. This has to be the nicest Army that I have ever seen. It has all of the early attributes that a collector would look for. Early brass base, heavy silvering, tappered tang, heavy patinas that has turned into a "blued like gun" color and stone mint blade with 100% crossgrain. What else could I ask for ? I even wonder if this baby has ever been worned much by the Officer as it looks almost too perfect.

Thank you all ! There are still many nice Armies out there and when compared to many other blades, quite affordable. You could get about 20 minty armies for the price of one SS Himmler dagger.

Pat How is it that this dagger does not have a tag? Super nice example...

Pat a beauty for sure but I have my doubts that the fittings are brass based they dont strike me as such from the pictures.

Denny, I would love to get it tagged but when I saw the price, I changed my mind. Thanks again for the positive comments. Tom, would there be a way for me to tell if it is brass base or not ? The reason as to why I'm assuming that it is brass base, is simply because it has a very early tappered tang, early crossguard and scabbard's fittings, and the "patina" ain't really black ( like showned on the pictures ) but trully blued like and very shinny. I do have other armies (mid-period) in my collection with heavy black patina and the coloration and texture isn't the same at all. Will try and take better pics of the top pommel and crossguard later on. Perhaps, this will help you and others, to determine if it is brass base or not. Thanks for your help. Cheers !

Tom and all, Here are close up pics of the pommel and crossguard. You can better appreciate the lustrous "blued" finish. Comments welcome ! Brass base or not ?

Wonderful dagger in truely outstanding condition. Thats superior patination. Is the scabbard itself (not only the scabbard bands) magnetic or not? Please proof carefully to avoid any scratches to the one-of-the-kind patination.
