I purchased a RAD Sr. by Pack in the late 50's and it came with 2 hangers. One was the standard type. The second was a very plain, quite worn "field or service" type hanger. It is made out brown holster type leather. It is basically a large belt loop, 5cm wide x 8.5cm long, in the shape of a round bottomed shield. Two 9cm straps are sewn into it in the form of an inverted "V". Two standard RAD/Luft type grey sliding clips are sewn to the ends. There appears to be some gold colored residue in the recesses which I believe to be the remains of aging laquer, not gold wash. There are no buckles, slides or adjustments. The clips are marked D.R.G.M. and the reverse leather stamped, with flat dies, "LP By". It appears to be factory made.
The second item is a standard short Luftwaffe portepee. This also is quite worn. The odd thing with it is, an overlay, sort of like a sock with a hidden drawsting at the bottom, is fitted. It is attached/glued where the top spiral ends, and hangs down covering the silver ball. It consists of standard portepee type twisted cords, in a 2 gold, 1 pinkish red, 2 gold pattern. The cords can be easilly parted to see the standard ball beneath. The bottom is open, and the silver ball beneath is in excellent condition when compared to the rest of the portepee, indicating to me that it was worn for quite a while with the non standard overlay.
Has anyone seen these before, or have any information concerning their use?
Dan

I know a picture is worth a thousand words, and it eliminates most mis-spellings, but I am unable to post a picture at this time. Dan
