Derjager, I remember you recently asked about these but didn't get any replies. I tried to but my computer crashed and I just recently got the new one.
I have one attributed to the Luftwaffe and 2 loose oakleaf devises. As far as I know they are original but ,as always, let me know what you think of them.

Raymond, thank you very much! I appreciate it. I juncked my initial request due to inactivity. Big Grin

Wish I could convey some words of wisdom but I have hit a grey area researching these oakleaf devices for the 40 year Wehrmacht L.S. award!

I am sure you have seen the examples that are solid between the ribbon and oakleaves as opposed to yours that are the cut out version.

Some do not like the cut out version feeling that they are 57 issue yet I have seen a solid type that was listed as 57 issue. It appeared to me to have straight veins kind of like your hollow back example!

Did any of your examples come from Vets?

Regards,--dj--Joe

Joe, all mine came from the same place. My friend picked up a collection from the family of a collector who passed away. These are the only ones I've seen for sale but I've not really actively searched them out either. Detlev shows the same style as mine in his book. Angolia, Littlejohn, Lumsden and Doehle show the solid type.None menchion 1957 version. I don't see why one would classify one way or the other, since there's no swastika. I would just think makers variation. I'll have to keep my eyes and ears open for more info.

They do show up in at least two period catalogs.
Steinhauer & Lck and Otto Schickle. From the images both appear to be the solid style, miniatures included.

That is just two makers though, how many more were there?

I don't see one in the reprint Assmann catalog which is strange as I thought they made everything.

I don't have a lot of non-political stuff, but I do have one of these 40 year army bars. I have no reason to believe it is not original as it came from the recipient's family as a gift to me in Austria some 35 years ago.

Hi Joe,

I believe so. I received it from the daughter of his second wife (name was Kraatz, I think, but that may have been the 2nd wife's maiden name). Don't ask what I had to do to get it Wink

Stephen with the provenance of this piece I do not doubt it's originality, I would bet it was hand made aboard ship.

Thanks for showing it.
