I picked up a Puma Army dagger with an unusual trademark. It's like the common one, but does not have the diamond around the cat's head. Any one seen one like it?

Could you post a pic? It sounds like it could be the first TM of theirs? But would need to see a pic to be sure! Dion

Here's a picture of the logo I think you're referring to. Dion is right, it's earlier than the more commonly seen Puma logo with the diamond.

Dear fellow collectors, I have read somewhere (here?) that it is an error to think the mark without diamond is the early one. It seems that the early one is the one WITH the diamond. Whatever is right, I do own an early one with slanted grip and tapered tang with the mark WITH diamond. Regards,

Generally speaking the early marks were etched and the later ones were stamped. Why/ A cost cutting measure as the stamped tm required much less work to produce and finish. The cat in the diamond is an earlier tm.

Tony,
Yeah, would make alot of sense! Very interesting, albeit that Wittmann claims the opposite? Pg93 But I must say, common sense says it would be time and cost saving to stamp, instead of etch!

Clemen + Jung had stamped trademarks as well. Never seen a Puma with anything other than an etched trademark.
