hi Edward,,,your medal is as follows:ww i war service medal-Awarded for service as follows:
Navy - for 28 days mobilised service or to those who lost their lives in active operations before completing that period, between 5 August 1914 and 11 November 1918.
Army and Air Force - entry into a theatre of war on duty, or who left places of residence and rendered approved overseas service between 5 August 1914 and 11 November 1918.
Mercantile Marine - at least six months service between 5 August 1914 and 11 November 1918.
,,the number on the rim is the issue number, name and unit of the recipient,,i cant tell what the engraving says,,but if you google British War medals, you find a starting place there for some research possiblities...Robert

Don't even consider it. That is far too much for the most common medal awarded to Commonwealth Forces in World War 1. If it was an unusual unit (that one is the Army Veterinary Corps - not one that attracts high prices), or the recipient is notable for some other reason, maybe.

A couple of notes. This medal is solid silver. It was the last British campaign medal made of silver, because during the depression, a lot of them were melted down for scrap value, because the owners were desperate.

As a result, the British Government made a conscious decision to manufacture widely distributed medals of cheaper medals, so they would never again be worth more as scrap.

Medal was called the EBM by Australian Soldiers (Every Buggers Medal) because everyone got one.

I can give you more info if you want it.

Almost every soldier who got this also got the British version of the 1914-19 Victory Medal as well. You are much better off getting a pair, than a single.

If you really want one of these, I'm sure I can get you one for a much better price.

David!
