Years ago, Angolia referred to a supposed State Fishery Official's Dagger (GO with black scabbard-hangers unknown). Has anyone ever seen one or heard of one in existance?

A description of this piece appears in Verordnungsblatt, but it has no illustration. The perceived conception is that this dagger looked like a State Official dagger, but with a scabbard that looked liked a Custom dagger, but finished in black leather.

The Verordnungsblatt description stated simply that the dagger was like a State Officials but with a black scabbard - and was no more explanatory.

In the mid 1980s, in a discussion with a dealer known as Jeff Roth, he revealed to me that he had acquired a State Officials dagger, but that it had a Customs pattern scabbard, and that this was finished with silver fittings and a black leather wrap to the scabbard.

It was my conclusion that this was, possibly, an example of the Fisheries Administration Dagger.

I personally have never seen such an example, so I am open to any other further information.

Due to my experiences there are often misunderstandings and slobby translations especially on the hard to read law-like orders I would like to see a copy of the "Verordnung" if possible.
Thank you in advance, regards,

This has been a topic recently on GDC as well. The thread about the Fisheries daggers which I am referring to has apparently been deleted.
From what I recall the existance of such a piece was generally agreed upon, however no such example was ever found.
In the previous thread there was also mention of the Piece which Jeff Roth had, but I have never seen a picture....
It seems that with all of these past threads disappearing into history, we are all doomed to repeat ourselves! Roll Eyes

Hi,

I also like to see the "Verordnungsblatt".

Maybe they have planed a own fishery-model.
Why not- there are also Cutlasses for Forestry-members.
But I´m shure no fisherman had ever get one.

Whilst the dagger I own is not the State Fishery Officials dagger it was awarded to a fisherman. It's an Imperial piece, I don't think it's pertinent to this thread but it's worth airing it every now and again.

As I understand the sea fishing industry business in Germany was large and was administered by a Governmental agency and this is where the dagger was meant to be worn. Not the average fisherman.

You are correct, Ron, It was for a Fisheries Administration Officer. Part of their role was to ensure that fishery stocks were not over-fished, and that breeding grounds were protected to ensure future supplies, etc. etc.

The copy of the Verordnungsblatt that I saw was in the posession of Tony L. Oliver, who showed me the relevant pages - but that was in the 1960s. However, if anyone has a copy of Mollo's "German Daggers, 1933-1945", I think that he also relates to the dagger, and gives the exact Verordnungsblatt reference.

Gary,

THAT'S the piece, so beautifully conditioned. It's better than I remember, thanks for showing it.
