There is a lot of difference in these 2 bayonet but the frogs and scabbards are about the same except one is painted black and the other looks blued. One is maker marked and the other is not.Quite a difference in quality one is bigger and heavier made and is stamped 17.Even the grips are different checkering and color,is one a early one and the other late war or were these generic un marked ones just cheap made?

Eric,
Is the blade on the stamped one slightly longer than the other, like 10 1/4"?

Eric,
Both bayonets look good to me. These are private purchase bayonets and were made by many different manufacturers in great numbers. The pot metal hilted one should be WWII era while the all steel one with blued scabbard should be earlier. Most of these steel hilted bayonets that I came across have steel blades too.
Regards,
Keith

Eric,
Your polished steel KS98 bayonet by Eickhorn was made well into the war. I have these with the later squirrel holding sword logo as well. It is an item of issue (probably to the police) and that is why it has a number on the pommel. If you look closely, you will notice that the steel bayonet has a T shaped slot instead of the T/O shaped slot that is on your plated bayonet. This only allows the bayonet to fit on the Kar98a instead of the Kar98k.

Eric The Anton Wingen Jr. bayonet hasn't been cut down. Anton was one of the few companys that used a wide fuller on a short blade. Along with Wingen, the others I know of are Tiger, Puma, Robert Schaff, Robert Klaas, Clemen & Jung, Klittermann & Moog, Gustav Spitzer, and Zeitler-Wien.

Eric, Nice pommel marked piece. I enjoy those. I'm with Orpo on these, they may be a type of law inforcement, or some form of police. The blued scabbard is correct for those, you will also find them in a solid pommel, no push button. There's a thread on another site that mentions these. here's a pic of two like it. Happy collecting,
Steve
