Hi guys,

Could you please let me know if this sawback bayonet is ok? I personally have a good feeling about it. The only question I have is concerning the sawback itself. Is it original to the piece? I am considering buying this one.

Jan,

Who is the maker of this bayonet? The saw back looks proper from what I can see.

Hey guys,

it's an E.u.F. Horster. There are more detailed pictures in the link. You can enlarge them if you wish. I really think it's the real deal but despite me collecting for two years now, I am not brave enough to go for a sawback given how many fakes are around.

Looks OK to me too. Condition is not mint so this should reflect in the price, whatever it is. Just bear in mind while these pieces are scarce, they are still out there. If this one goes too high you can always find another that's better conditioned.

Hey everyone,

the current price is approximately 218 USD, which I think isn't too bad. Thanks for your opinions. I am also considering purchasing an immitation staghorn (wood) dress bayonet. It's a tough call.

Nice looking sawback set. I am not much into these dress bayonets, but I very much like this style.

I bought a fireman's sawback 4 years ago in the exact same style as yours, but it was made by Puma. It also came with a scabbard and a black frog, All the pieces are in excellent condition.

The price from a dealer at that military show was $150.00. These pieces, in good condition are going up in price.

If you can get a nicely conditioned sawback for $150-$218, grab it. If you don't want it, I'll be happy to buy it from you with a markup. Just check what the dealers sell these pieces for.

Joe,

Nice looking Puma, very desireable maker mark & on a short sawback. Terrific combination, like Terry's Smile

Joe,
Even 4 years ago, buying a short sawback fire piece for $150 is tantamount to highway robbery.
That's with you being the robber and the dealer being the robee. Wink

Thanks for the comments guys. I have missed an opportunity to buy the one above. It sold for 255 USD. I bid 250 and lost. It did not please me when I came back home only to find out someone sniped a last second offer that beat mine.

I wasn't looking to buy a fireman's bayonet when I ran into the dealer, who I had a "relationship" over the years. But the condition and the sawback style, along with the fact he was looking for a quick turnaround on his recent purchase of this bayonet along with some others led to the offer and my acceptance. Sometimes your just in the right place.
