This is a brand new handmade tanto.I know this is not an old item, and I post it here to collect some general opinions. The blade is from something like damascus steel, and the handle and scabbard is made from good quality wood and horn(buffalo maybe?).Thanks.

THE TANTO LOOKS LIKE SOME OF THE WORK COMING OUT OF CHINA WITH THE FAKE LAMINATION. FROM THE PHOTOS, I DOUBT THIS IS A HAND FORGED LAMINATED BLADE.

Is there something to do to findout about the lamination? It is sharpened at the blade, and looks like that all the way, dunno.

Phatt,
Sorry, but as Bob wrote it looks more like the acid etched Chinese blade.
They have a real industry producing the "samurai blades" to flood the markets.
Easy recognizable first red flag is the "damascus pattern" far enough from real Japanese hand forged blades.

This knife is not japanese, it is claimed handmade in the US.Is there anyway to test it and see if this thing is real folded steel? How this thing with the acid works?

I WOULD SUGGEST TRYING A KNIFE MAKER'S FORUM(IF SUCH A THING EXISTS). THIS IS A KNIFE AND NOT A TANTO. POSSIBLY, YOU CAN FIND HELP THERE.
