I could use some help identifing this piece. Its not in great shape but I'm guessing that its rare because I cant find anything like it on the internet. I only have a few pics. Any and I mean any information could help. Even confirmations of opinions would help. I am considering purchase but need to be sure. Thanks for all of your help

Why ???

Why would consider purchasing something that you don't know what it is, is in that condition, and may or may not be rare?

I don't know what it is, it looks like a hunting or forestry knife of some kind to me.

The grip reminds me of a Hirschfanger (that was before I saw a better photo of it - I don't think so any more)

I really don't think it has anything to do with the SS

Welcome to the forum.

It seems that you've already purchased it?

Thank you. Hirshfanger is a start. I will see what info I can find with that as a possibility.

In regards to as why? If it is rare and of value I can get it at a good price and either keep it or sale it later.

Thanks again and please keep any opinions regarding the dagger itself coming. I really appreciate it!

510 GBP ??? That is like 890.00 USD. That seems very high given the condition. With the larger photos to view on the auction site, I now doubt it is even German.

Just my opinion, but it looks like a modern fantasy piece that has been artificially 'aged'

I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it is worth what you paid.

I can clear up one point: It is not an SS dagger.

I don't want to sound negative here, but I have a few suggestions. #1: Politely ask the seller if he will allow a return (less shipping, of course) #2: If you used Paypal, carefully read the "buyer protection" insurance information and be ready to act, in case the seller is less than understanding. #3: Look into Ebay's insurance coverage (I think it allows you about $200). #4: If you used a credit card, you might be able to fight the charge. I sincerely hope you can get your money back, or at least some of it. Too bad you didn't find this forum earlier! I hope this works out for you, and welcom to the forum.

Thanks. I havent actually paid yet and am waiting to hear from the seller because I have concerns regarding what you have mentioned.

It sounds like so far that I have at least 2 maybe three folks disagreeing to the authenticity.

Many views have been made of this thread so, if you view this thread I really would like to hear your opinion if you have one. Thanks everyone for your help.

If you have not paid yet, DON'T. There are ways you can get away without getting bad feedback on Ebay. Offer to pay his listing fees in exchange for good feedback. It would be well worth the small expense to not get negative feedback. And better yet, you don't end up with a dagger that is not worth near what the auction's ending price was. For nearly $900 (US) you can get a real SS dagger in better shape than that thing, not a looker, but better and AUTHENTIC. I know of one for sale right now for $750, and it is much better. As to authenticity, that thing is definitely not an SS dagger. It might be an "authentic" something, but whatever it is, it is not worth that kind of money. Good luck with it!

Hi BJ5,welcome to the forum. If I was you I would contact the underbidders,as all the big money went on in the last 18 seconds, someone must know what it is.
There is a Paperknife on this site for the estate of SS Obergruppenfuhrer Redeiss that has a simular grip.It could have masonic connections,Regards nats
