Just wanted to share some pics of my newest piece. A skinning? knife made by F. TRESCH of Munchen. Overall length is 7 3/16 inches long and the blade is 3 3/4 inches long. The blade fits into a recess in the scabbard. The whole knife is extremely thin as you can see by my comparision with a dime. If anyone has any information on this type of knife please feel free to post. Also if anyone has an idea of value that would be great also.

Similar in shape and size to a Scottish skean dubh worn in the top of the stocking when wearing the kilt ensemble

Mazz,

In the German language your skinner is known as a Nicker - usually a small, sharp knife with its own scabbard or tucked into a kangaroo-type pouch found on much larger hunting and forestry Hirschfaenger.

Yours seems to be a high quality example, the ornamented spine, good quality leather and unique fitted ferrule/cap are all good indicators of this.

It's a lovely example, you should be really pleased to add something like this to your collection. You'll look hard to find pieces as good as this and thanks for letting us take a look.

Continued good luck and best regards!

Bill
