I picked up two black wooden shadow boxes at The Christmas Tree Store yesterday. A dagger with scabbard seperately will fit at a slight angle, but how can I secure the dagger and scabbard to the foam backing so that I can hang them on the wall? What kind of hooks or hangers have you guys used in the past?
Thanks, Chief

Chief: Assuming the frame back below the foam is solid screw some small eyehooks into it. Use these with fishing monofilament to secure the dagger and scabbard where you want it in the frame. The monofilament is almost invisible and this is what I did to display some of my daggers. Jim

So they hang from fishing line, attached to the top of the shadowbox with eye hooks?
I thought that they were attached to the back of the box somehow.
The fishing line won't hurt the wood handles?

I prefer to super glue the dagger scabbard to the display. They will never fall off.

Too funny Andy!! Chief: The only part of the dagger in touch with the monofilament is the upper clip where I threaded it through to attach to the eye hook. What IMO you want to avoid at all costs is any metal to metal contact as this can start corrosion. If I were to attach a dagger outside the scabbard I would probably thread the monofilament under the lower guard because it would be the least noticable there and at a good balance point to display the dagger. Here are a couple of more examples of a chained Model 36 and a Himmler honor dagger in shadowbox type frames. I lined the backs of these with cream colored felt and hinged them for easy access. Jim

An old vet trick I've seen was to bore a hole thru the grip and screw it to the wall. I've sen this done to daggers, bayonets, rifles and waht have you. Jim

Thank You everyone for your imput.
Jim, thanks for your ideas as well.
I did have a co-worker bring me a rifle one day with holes drilled through the wooden stock. When I asked about them she said that's how her Dad hung it on the wall after he brought it home from Germany after WWII! Two holes and some lag bolts. Good thing it wasn't a K98!

Went to a vets house once and he had two mint SS NCO Swords with holes drilled through the top and the bottom of the scabbards so he could run wire to hang over fireplace. Jeeze!

I wish I would have kept the two Italian 11MM revolvers I had at one time that had been made into table lamps. I once bought 2 skids of Springfield 1903 stocks when a woodworking shop went out of business. Their plan had been to bore these out and make them into floor lamps. This is turning into a kind of fun thread. Anyone else have any stories? Jim

Thanks again for all of the help and ideas!
I do have a few more questions. When you get the cases with the glass front and foam back, how thick does the case have to be? Does the 2" one work for daggers, or do you need the 3" one? Where do you buy those? Is customdisplays.com a good place to look? Also, would you need the 3" one for a Luger or P38?
Thanks Again, Chief
