Has anyone ever seen other flatware with this image ? 18 cm./ 7 inch fork from the HAUS DER DEUTSCHEN KUNST in Munich , I assume these were used in their prestigious restaurant " Goldene Bar " . Which still exists , by the way .. Sofar the administrator of the German site has not responded to my questions . >> Haus der Deutschen Kunst

Winkelman, I'm sorry I don't have any info for you about the fork, but thanks for posting it. It's the first time that I've seen one of these from Der Haus der Deutschen Kunst. Very nice! Bill

Hello Philippe , thanks a million - that ad is just great !
When first found , I wondered if the design showed heavy wear ( no detail in feathers or helmet ) , but this is indeed just as it should be . On the forum I have also found a picture of the BRUCKMANN flatware with the famous " A.H. " design , I'll show that as well for comparison ..

This picture comes from a post by Eric von Rader . Of course , these Fhrer items were made from real SILVER - the Haus der Deutsche Kunst version is Silverplated ( 90 ) .

Executed in the same smooth stylised way - no " inner detail " . This logo of the HDK was designed by RICHARD KLEIN ..

Yes, Richard Klein 1890_1967 was very famous at this time.. he was a painter, a graphiker and a sculptor. His works were exposed each years during the great art exhibition in Munich (GDK: Grosse Deutsche Kunstausstellung im haus der Deutschen Kunst zu Mnchen).
Best,
Philippe (majorplm)

Gentlemen, Thanks for the additional super photos and info. I feel that the whole area of art and it's related subjects are key to gaining a good understanding and appreciation for the overall mindset in Germany during the years '33-45. Much of this perception can be directly gleaned from government-approved artistic images; whether painting, sculpture, architecture, music, etc. Since all of these areas were near and dear to the Fhrer's heart, we get to see the German artworld's impression of what would please the old man and also to keep the Party-boys happy and away from their studios ... If there would only be one book to read about the subject I would reccommend, "Hitler and the Power of Aesthetics," by Frederic Spotts. I'd say it's much more than just a description of the arts and artists, but also an extremely valuable facet of Hitler's biography, that's only addressed peripherally in most good biographies. Thanks again and best regards! Bill

I understand that many silversmiths will purposely not detail designs in items meant for heavy use, as the details soon become blurred..
