Thank you Brian for your appreciation.
Thankfully, I didn't pay that price for my SS Himmler but I'm still glad that they are not decreasing in value.
Concerning my daggers, I usually clean the blade with just a bit of semichrome ( if it is dirty ) and I then never put back the blade within the scabbard.
I know that many collectors are also having the same approach with their blades.
You have to remember that every time you have to pull out your blade from your scabbard, you're kind of "hurting" the blade with runner marks.
At the end, it is anyone's philosophy about what they do with their daggers.

Here's a picture of some of my daggers in their cabinet and as you can see, none of the blades are within their scabbards.

The motto style on your Himmler does not match those usually attributed to Himmler daggers, however the detail of the Himmler dedication looks correct. That been said, it is frequently and well faked, so you are right to be cautious. It is neither an Attwood or Reddick blade, they are very well made but easy to spot. Attwood Himmlers have a "dot" on the "i" of Himmler, Reddicks have the Eickhorn logo positioned too far from the crossguard. There are smaller private fraudsters which are a bigger problem, at worst it is a parts dagger with perhaps a enhanced blade.

Patrice's beautiful example has the typical Himmler style motto etch, I would feel a lot more comfortable buying one with more of the characteristics one would expect to see on a Himmler blade. The other areas to consider are the brown based grip and usually early Eicks have the "high neck" variety grip eagle.

Good luck with it, Red

Patrice I've been putting my dagger blades in & Out of the scabbard to check the "fit" - I guess once is enough. Beautiful collection - I guess it takes a little more space to display that way, but worth it in terms of conservation.
