What do you guys think this is worth? I can get it for $1000 or less maybe. It needs a repaint and maybe a grip repair.

$1000 or less is a good deal. Don't repaint the scabbard. If the grip repair is the crack I see then I probably would leave it alone.

I don't think the grip has been repaired yet. I need to deceide but since SS have incresed so much in price the last 2 years or so it seemed like a great deal to me.

Can the grip be repaired nicely, is it worth it in your opinion? What about the Scabbard? What do you guys think? I think I buy regardless unless you see something else you guys don't like about it but it seems fine to me. So any opinions guys?

The piece looks good to me. In today's market, the price is not bad. Condition is consistant throughout and appears to be presentable "as is". I agree with Skyline, Keep it in it's current state so no parts of it look out of place.

$1000, go for it for sure. It does not look that bad. I would leave the dagger alone also. Scabbard, that is a tough one. It depends on how you want to display it, and your future plans as far as selling. That blade might clean up some with a little simichrome. Nice find for $1000 or less!

I think it is a very good price for this dagger and well worth it. However, I personally would not have the scabbard repainted. Once the original paint is removed, thats it forever...gone. It will then always be a "post-war repaint". That is just my feeling.

What the heck is wrong with the scabbard, better looking than most painted ones that I see. Rates at a Whittmann 75% at least. Handle cracks are not nearly as bad as chips. If it was a chip I would repair. In my opinion leave the cracks alone.Decent dagger for a good price. I would think that you could flip it for $1500.00 immediately if you were so inclined. Enjoy! cheers, Ryan S

If it was me buying this, I would preserve that scabbard (so it does not further deteriorate) and put it away. Re-painting probably has more negatives than positives. Leave the grip alone. Display the dagger without the scabbard, which is what I always do, except for M36, which the scabbard has to be next to the dagger while on display. That's just me. I think that blade might clean up a little without taking anything away. You could put some non-permanent color in that motto, and you have a nice-looking display piece. I do agree with Ryan also, you got a great deal on a decent early piece! Enjoy it, or make a little $$ on it and get one you want more!

Its on the way, I'll do the bernie fondle to the scabbard and clean the blade up and post her. Thanks to all the patrons who bought my stuff so I could buy this SS. My buying frensy I went on last month did not have the SS in mind so I had to improvise and sell

I was watching an HJ on the internet and the auction got pulled and luckly enough I also save an Navy he had listed and I contacted him about the HJ (the J.A. Henakle) and I ended up buying it, then he sent me a list of other daggers he had. I then email for pictures(the ones you see) and from what I gather he is not on top of current market prices because some other daggers he has look great and a fairly priced so the source remains secret for now. But I suppose it was the right email at the right time. I have never got any rare or scarce items through ads, but that is always a dream. If he was in the collecting community I am sure it would have sold for much more.
