the case here is that it is a Delta copy and I am not questioning the Dachau SS cloth items.

THE MEDAL IS A LATE 1950'S CAST COPY, WHICH WAS SOLD THROUGH THE 1960'S. THE TAB, AS ROBERT STATED, IS A REPRODUCTION. THE STATEMENT ABOUT THE SPURIOUS NATURE OF DACHAU CLOTH INSIGNIA IS THE RESULT OF MISINFORMATION FOUND BY NEWER COLLECTORS ON THE INTERNET. THOSE OF US WHO HAVE COLLECTED OVER AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME HAVE HAD MULTIPLE OPPORTUNITIES TO BY INSIGNIA THAT WAS TAKEN FROM THE STORE ROOMS AT DACHAU. THE LAST VET GROUPING OF THIS MATERIAL I SAW HAD 62 COLLAR TABS, 38 FOREIGN VOLUNTEER SLEEVE SHIELDS, THREE HANDSCHAR FEZES AND 28 CUFFTITLES, BOTH BEVO AND HAND EMBROIDERED.

Wow Bob, that is some grouping! Any chance to see a photo of this vet Dahau horde?

P.S. Always wondered how to differentiate the Azad HInd medals. Does someone have a war time original to compare?

This post is factually incorrect on several counts.

1) "Delta" is not the same as "Dachau."

2) Most collectors of SS insignia are very aware of the well documented stores of SS insignia and uniform items found at Dachau; only the uninformed novices have doubts.

3) Most of the insignia found at Dachau were foreign volunteer insignia, because SS planners grossly overestimated the numbers of foreigners who would volunteer and ordered far too many pieces of insignia than were ultimately needed (ncluding insignia for units which were only planned and never formed at all).

4) As one would expect of insignia taken from a warehouse the pieces brought back by American GIs in large numbers from the vast stocks found at Dachau are in mint, unissued condition and are still relatively common today. Only a few styles are considered rare.
