This a very sweet Kober, thanks to PVON!

Those Suhl makers have an important thing in common; the grips are made of oak or similar hardwood.
I have never seen a Suhl made SA with poor fittings between the grip and cross guards, no shrinking at all. It’s the same with the Berlin maker Haco.

I believe that oak or similar hardwood doesn’t shrink over the years like other type of woods used by most makers do.

Have anyone of you guys seen a Suhl or Berlin SA with poor grip to crossguard fittings?

Hi Sam,

for me , the Suhler makers and around are the best of all.Very good workmanship. Please note,Suhl and the ambiance areas was a big weapons town .Almost you find on suhler daggers oak grips, but often we can see beech. This two woods are the dominant on suhler daggers.
Best.

WOW .... Sam, the Blades just don't get any Better - we can almost see your relection in them! Crossgrain = should be in a Ref. Book.

The Grips don't get any better either - looks like the Oak could have been from the same tree. Love Oak, as it's distinctive patterns are pleasing & it can be sawn as straight, quarter sawn & diagonal - all are beautiful.

Congratultions on Primo SUHL Daggers...

Txs, Dave / dblmed

Thats a sweet dagger. I saw it Pvons site and the thought had crossed my mind but just had a large car and vacation expense....congrats on a beauty!

I am not taking anything away from the dagger but just out of curiousity, in pic 7 there is a difference in the blade near the guard. Is that an indication that the blade could have been cleaned?

Bob, It looks like it might be the reflection of the cross guard.

Fantastic dagger Sam. An absolutely beautiful grip with very distictive graining and sharp contour lines. Nice minty blade......doesn't get any better than that. Enjoy Smile

On image #7 above, you really captured the cross grain and maker's mark.. Excellent!

The problem with the gene pool is that there is no lifeguard.

Thanx for input Bob!

Of course there is always a possibility that a nice blade like this could have been carefully cleaned at some point...
Honestly I don't know if this blade has been cleaned or not, but 100% strong crossgrain remains as you can see and there is no damage to the motto or Makermark….

Nice ones Sam!

Over 60 yrs and the chances of a lone finger
print occuring means most blades have been wiped
but not damaged!

That is a beautiful group of Suhl daggers Sam! The slanted woodgrain on the Kober is stunning! I also like the Haenel grip, which looks to be the same type of golden wood often seen on Kobers. You're right - Suhl makers are fantastic!

Hello Nakida,

I have daggers from the three Suhler makers too, but not in so good condition.
