I am told that this is a rare Yugo Chetnik bayo made for the honor guard for the Chetnik King Alexander. Can you guys tell me anything more about it? Numbers produced, actual use, value?
Thanks,
wagner

Hello Wagner,

Yes it is a very rare bayonet. Here is my example, which is rather more beat up than yours, and it has lost its Deaths head badge.

To my understanding, the bayonet fits on the Model 1930 Export Mauser rifle, and the Chetniks provided the Royal Guard for King Peter of Yugoslavia. I believe that these "Kindjahl" style bayonets were exclusive to the Royal Guard.

Of the 5 or 6 examples I have seen over the years, all had relatively low numbers. In fact, your specimen numbered in the 1100s is the highest number I have encountered. My example is numbered 109. Actual quantity produced? I can only guess, but I think it might have been around a couple of thousand at most.

Value, difficult to say. I bought mine in about 1981, off Roger S. Steffin (now there is a name from the past) at the Houston Gun Show. I knew immediately what it was and just had to buy it. Unfortunately, Roger also knew exactly what it was - so I didn't get too much of a bargain. Whatever value they have now - it must have three zeros on the end of it.
